For everyone who thinks that you have to have 5 star linebackers

Luke kuechley (3 stars) rank 565
Bobby Wagner (2 star) rank 2097
Novorro Bowman (3 star) rank 221

Top 3 linebackers in the nfl

This could go for many other positions too. So many kids develop late and peak early which is why near half of the 5* don't pan out.

True, but it's still a better bet that a 5star will play at least like a 3 star, than a 3 star like a 5 Star.

This discussion gets brought up every year and it's not valid. There are very few players rated five stars, there are many many more players rated as 3 stars and 2 stars compared to the blue chip prospects. So of course some are going to come out of that large pool and become great players. But when you look at the numbers, the star system does pretty well at indicating improved chance of making it to the NFL with a higher rating out of high school

according to star rankings Clifton Garrett was probably the best LB we signed in the past 10 years.

he played in 3 games accumulating zero stats.

but don't fall into the "stars don't matter" trap either.

we picked up a nice 4 star today. despite the doom and gloom scenario Jimmy Details is selling, LSU currently has the 5th rated class for 2017. -- and that is without Narcisse.

Losing guys like Moses and Allen to Bama does hurt, but LSU will close strong. There is still a ways to go before NSD.

Wow , have you done the math on how many 4&5 stars are in the NFL? Or did you just pick a few exceptions? Seems like a legit study, let's go after 2&3*'s. You do realize that someone can do the same for just about every other position.

The correlation between star rankings and win totals is there. But I think that is because you are talking 4 & 5* at many/most/all positions for a team, at a team sport and then throw in depth.

So to put together winning seasons with conf champs- you better have a bunch of 4/5* and do it year over year.

On a 1-on-1 level, yes you can get some 3* and develop them, or the mature late. But the law of averages says if you count on that at many positions, you will fail as a team.

Using this year's numbers from 247

5* - 23
4* - 283
3* - 1707
2* - 1215

So almost 6x the amount of 3* players vs 4* & 5* players, I would hope a few hit...
