If this is truly the reason why we didn't get him, I agree. One player won't make or break us, but having a terrible special teams coach would help with breaking us.

Allen and Moses are still in play. Let's get a LB coach and official visits and see what happens.

Certainly losing Allen at the moment sucks, but if that's the price for drastically improved special teams I'll pay it every day

I seriously doubt his main reasoning for not coming here was the firing of a terrible special teams coach. If so then the desire to play for his state was never there..

BDP is really a great dude. He's a fantastic recruiter, too. People don't understand the recruiting game lots of time. Just like Ed O has recruited offensive players when he was a DL coach...it's a giant team, everyone plays a part.

Just because BDP was/is a terrible ST coach doesn't take away from his ability to recruit or have recruits feel comfortable going to a school where he is

I'd rather see a well functioning Special Teams. Imagine our record with a half decent ST.

I understand a recruiter should should influence your decision but it should never make it.. if he hopes to play from
Day 1, represent his home and eventually make the NFL then firing BDP should not have affected his decision at all

Seems like Peveto's firing is Allen's excuse like "Uncle" Les Miles firing was Moses' excuse for commuting to Alabama.

Does Aranda also coach the LBs? He has elsewhere in his career.

I agree, we have to build the best staff possible. We have to develop players and play LSU style football again,

this guy gets it.
most of you have obviously have never dealt with being recruited or having a son that is. It usually comes down to relationships, and BDP excelled at building trust. Granted he sucked arse as a coach, but definitely has value as a recruiter.

Look I have been friends with the man for nearly 20 years. He is a great guy and a phenomenal recruiter. His on the field coaching problems are well documented here so I won't get into it but his value to this University was in the recruiting relationships he has established over the years. It takes time to build trust and he excelled at that.

I know I am biased somewhat because he and I are friends so I defend him a little more than I should which is not popular on this board and other circles, but after he accepted the HC position at NSU Nick Saban called and offered him a position on his staff at Alabama which was twice the money of the HC position at NSU. He turned it down. I think everyone and their grandmother would agree that Saban doesn't offer someone a staff position unless that guy would bring tremendous value to his program.

Too bad they could not put him in a position to recruit but not coach. If that is possible with the NCAA

Hating coaches is the new norm here.
Facts don't matter.

I said we should have kept in some capacity just for recruiting.

100% possible, why they chose to not go that route is ridiculous.
