Maybe you are the one not paying attention. Did you watch college football last year? Must not have if you make that statement.

I feel that he would not come due to the fact that we already have 4 QBs including Franks in front of him

Talk about it in The Tiger Den
Shea Patterson's not the state's only big-time quarterback from the 2016 class. By the time the final story on 2016 is written there's no telling how high Cole Kelley's stock will be.

Kelley wants to show Cam Cameron and Les Miles what he can do at camp this summer
Kelley is an uncommon prospect. The Teurlings Catholic pro-style quarterback is all of 6-foot-7 and 235 pounds. Not surprisingly, he's a pocket passer. And his stature as a recruit is improving by the week.

After a strong performance at the Dallas QB Challenge hosted by Rivals.com you can expect Kelley's stock to rise even more. He already has offers from Arkansas, Colorado State, Louisiana Tech, Lafayette, Oklahoma State, Southern Miss and Tulane. That could just be the beginning.

Kelley recently said, at that QB camp, that LSU's coaches want him to camp this summer. He said that again when TigerBait.com reached him this week.

"My plans are to go (to a camp at LSU)," Kelley said. "That's what I'm planning on doing unless something else pops up. It's on the schedule."

Kelley isn't sure if he will attend LSU's spring game but he is fairly confident about that camp. He readily admits he grew up liking the Tigers, so if he were to pick up an offer from LSU it would be huge for him.

"Obviously I've talked to Cam Cameron a little bit," Kelley said. "But it was basically just a little conversation. It wasn't even about how interested they were. I was there at the junior day about a month ago and we talked then. I've been going up there throughout my whole life, many times. But just since I've been recruited I went to the Alabama game as a recruit and to the Ole Miss game as a recruit. Then this junior day.

"I just loved the whole experience (at the junior day). It was great seeing that nice campus and walking out of the locker room to go onto the field was amazing. And the new add-ons to the stadium were amazing, too," he added.

Kelley is a staunch supporter of Les Miles and his coaching staff. That much is clear. It's also clear he's put some thought into it.

"They definitely know what they're doing. As much as people might think they don't, they do," Kelley said. "I think their offense could fit me. Obviously Coach Cameron is not dumb so whatever quarterback they have they really shape the offense around that. I mean, they're running with the quarterbacks more recently but when they had (Zach) Mettenberger they threw the ball downfield more. (Cameron) can make anything happen with any QB he has."

Arkansas and Oklahoma State are "the big" offers, Kelley said, not surprisingly since those are the Power Five schools in play. He has not visited either school but said he's planning on visiting Fayetteville and Stillwater this spring.

"I know Arkansas has a new OC that likes to throw the ball so I do like that," Kelley said. "That and they have tradition. They just win, like LSU. And they're in the SEC so that's a plus.

"Oklahoma State runs that spread and they'll throw it 40 times a game. It's just like my high school offense so I do like that, too," he

I wonder if this has anything to do with our feels about getting any of the other QBs we are after, or if this is a pure depth move.

Doesn't matter to me.

I really only think we have a shot with Haskins and even that is very thin. I think we offer Kelley at the camp and he commits.

Guarantano is committing next week I believe and if he does go to Rutgers, Haskins might end up at Ohio State. Hell, Haskins might end up at Rutgers if Guarantano goes to Ohio State. He has stated that he wanted to commit in April or sometime before summer so we'll in all likelihood know who the 2nd QB will be by June/July

But are any of those offenses running a pro style offense? I don't think so. I could be wrong though. I think our offense right now favors pocket passers. Our QBs aren't asked to run read options and rarely scramble or have designed run plays. Instead, we ask them to make throws from within the pocket, mainly 7-15 yard passes. I'm not against a mobile QB who can make these throws, but for now, I would rather have the sure handed passer who doesn't run.

So you are saying that you don't want Cole Kelley? Kelley runs read option and plays primarily from the shotgun (a spread QB). Kelley is also pretty mobile. Pretty much the exact opposite of what you want, is that correct?

This isn't solely directed towards you, but I am tired of the people on this site (LSU fans) stating that they don't want spread QBs, yet they jump at guys like Chad Kelly, Braxton Miller, Cole Kelley, and Shea Patterson. Don't want mobile QBs, yet all four of those guys are.

And how would they have panned out in LSU's system?

Probably horrible because we have yet cater to their skill set or develop them. The biggest waste of talent at LSU at the QB position was JL and JJ. They could have been so much better than what they were but lack of development is what hurt them.

When you have a stable of RB's and WR's the caliber of LSU's it's the QB's job to get them the ball.Having good mobility is obviously an asset but being able to recongnize situations to put your play makers in position is more important.

Why would a less mobile QB be better at recognizing situations to put play makers in position?

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I'm saying I would rather a QB who can get the ball to our playmakers for sure (Mettenberger type) rather than one who has some mobility but can't complete many passes (Jennings). I would love to have a mobile QB who can sling the ball around and still have the ability to run if need be. I also never said I didn't want Kelley. From what I've heard (never watched him play myself) the kid has a big time arm and is a smart decision maker. You're saying that I don't think the kid can throw the ball because he can run too. Not even close. I said I want a QB who can make the throws we ask of him even he can't run, rather than a mobile QB who can't make these throws. I didn't say that Kelley couldn't fit here. I do think that the transition from running a spread to running an I formation can be difficult to transition into, and I'm not the only one. You can see this by how ESPN constantly wonders if Marriota is going to be able to transition into this style once he makes it to the pros.
