In recent years with Miles in charge it seemed LSU put too many eggs into a single player late. It was all or nothing.

This too often...for my liking...ended with LSU striking out on positions of need. Leo Lewis is one such example. Lewis or bust that year. Although I do realize kids lie to coaches all the time and LSU has at times been left holding their Johnson on signing day thinking they had THAT guy.

It's becoming clear to me LSU will not have that problem at Lber this year. Recruiting that position is accelerating heading into signing day. Names are being added to the list...not withering away. I like this approach.

LSU may not end up with either Moses or Allen this year, but a Phillips/Gay combo would make me forget all about the two local boys...because they are just as talented IMO.

Geaux get em O! Finish strong!

amen. I've always said you can't just recruit Louisiana boys. kids are not loyal to the state u. and we should be careful being loyal to them.

Miles killed it in recruiting, that was never the problem.

Well, one difference between Leo Lewis and this current recruiting class is that Moses and Allen made their intentions clear months before NSD --- giving plenty of advance notice to Orgeron he needed to keep searching. No reason for Orgeron to sit back and twiddle his thumbs with other potential LB signees.

Had Lewis committed to another school months before NSD, Miles would have continued trying to sign other LBs --- it only makes sense.

He wasn't twirling his thumbs jackass he was out recruiting while Miles twirled his on the couch. You obviously know nothing bc he has been in contact with Phillips since he took over, straight from the boys mouth. It was Miles who sat there and waited. Get your facts straight. Idk how you can say this when that man hasn't stopped recruiting lol what a dumb statement.

Very misleading statement!! In the early years he recruited better classes with regards to front 7 and online. The inconsistency in recruiting DL, Lb'er, and QB in the latter years is what got him fired, not his offensive philosophy. With proper recruiting and his archaic offense he still made it to the National Championship game! He still wouldn't be beating Bama with consistency, but he would've save his job.

To say recruiting was never a problem is not accurate. Highly rated classes don't necessarily mean killing it!

Good point to a degree. For the most part I recall Miles settling for 2nd tier guys from in state once first options seemed lost. Adams was an exception and a great job of Miles getting him on board.

To the previous poster saying Miles killed it in recruiting...I say that was true for the most part. At times he left some pretty big gaps at certain positions. While it's nice to sign 3 stud WR's on the regular Miles didn't always fill needs adequately.

Miles did a poor job consistently recruiting QB's, Oline, Lber, and even Dline in stretches. He recruited RB, WR, and DB's as well as anyone.

Just my opinion.

This just shows that the head coach does not RECRUIT every player signed by the team - QB's = Cameron, LBer = Chavis, Dline = Brick Haley/Chavis.

If LSU does not have a tremendous linebacker class, coach O may warrant some blame but the larger problem would be Aranda's recruiting abilities.

All four (Allen, Moses, Phillips, and Gay) are really good football players. Moses is a little overrated, but I expect him to be a very good Lber at Bama. Allen is a beast and maybe a little underrated. I think Allen and Moses ratings should be flipped. Phillips is a little underrated IMO.

All 4 look like future NFL lbers to me.

It's hard to be optimistic about LB recruiting considering how bad it's been the past few years, but man, with Phillips, Gay, Brooks, Taylor and Smith still on the board, I don't see how we can't get at least 2.

Agree 100%. Miles classes were increasingly reliant on skill positions for rankings. Post 2011/2012 we signed something like 27 linebackers signed but only 4 did anything significant. I couldn't even count Beckwith because he was signed as a DE.
The oline is just as bad and the attrition is killing depth. Consider this: there won't be a single offensive lineman from 2013 on next year's team & only 2 from 2014.
