According to this Nola.com article, Kasonga is visiting Moo State this weekend and is scheduled to visit LSU in early May. I don't know how LSU stacks up against the other schools he's considering, but this kid sounds like he'd really help compensate for the loss of Mickey, at least in terms of shot blocking and rebounding.

I knew he was 6-9 but didn't realize he was such a freakish athlete with a 42-inch vertical. Pairing him and Victor together would not only boost the low post, but further ensure Simmons can stay on the wing. Hope we can land him.

Kasonga, Newman, and Sampson. If we get 2 of the 3 I'll be ecstatic. If we get just 1, it'll be a good finish to a great class.

Newman is obviously the better player, but Kasongo would be a more singnificat pickup for next year's LSU team

I agree having more depth in the frontcourt is not only needed but always a good thing.

But can you explain why you want Ben Simmons on the wing as opposed to the post?
And I do not mean in transition handling the ball, or end of game and shot clock situations.

Also think we end with Kasongo and Payne.

He should not and is too good of a player to wait LSU out. While I would love to have Sampson as a part of this class, as an objective fan, he should not and we as fans should not expect that out of him.

because Simmons can create off dribble and do work down low. You want ball in his hands, and post would be a disservice to his skill set.

Where Ben Simmons plays doesnt matter one bit. Whether he's at thr 1 or 5 he's doing the exact same thing, point forward.

Where he starts between the 3 and 4 is completely trivial.

I agree he can create off the dribble for his size, well or any size. But his athleticism, height/weight, and ability to to be 50%+ from 14ft and in is what makes it such.

Its not about it being a disservice, its about winning games and we will need him more so on the glass and closer to the basket, than the wing. He is that good it does not matter. But I see things like this or people complaining our offensive sets are too simple. Why does it have to be complicated, JOB3, Martin, Mickey, and now Simmons, dont need complex offensive sets to be effective. Create triangles or diamonds on the floor and feed them the ball when we are not in transition. I know this is going beyond what you said or wanted but how I feel and the justification for leaving Ben in a role where he can be most effective and help the team.

He would be effective in any "position" or role but where would he be more effective. Catching the ball on the perimeter with isolations to one side or catching it 12-14 feet and in situations that are both turn and face, as well as back to the basket.

Because he isn't a post player. His scoring, even inside, is a product of his outside-in game. The guy has ell the makings of an elite wing player. Forcing a square peg into a round hole because he's tall just doesn't make sense and would be doing the young man a serious disservice.

I agree it doesn't matter on the offensive end, but unless he puts on some muscle/gets stronger (which will inevitably happen), I'm not so sure we want to count on him for tough SEC rebounding & banging w/ 4's all game on the other end of the court. That's why we need another big (especially if Darcy or Elbert don't make a leap)

How big do ou think he is? He's 6'9 230 ish. Thats the size of 95% of college 4's.

I would go smaller than that.

He's not a good post defender, he's not a good shot blocker or rebounder. He is good at stripping the ball and jumping the pass on defense witch is things you mainly do in the perimeter.

He may not play strong, as far as post defense, but he's the size of most college 4s. I mean Mickey wasn't a big guy. I agree on offense let him do his thing, use him like miami used lebron a couple years back. Let him take it up the floor after a rebound, give it to him on the wing or elbow and let him create, and post him up if they put a undersized or slower defender on him.

But would he really... I mean he only managed 16 minutes a game averaging 6 and 5 for a juco... Even John Odo put up better numbers than that

Can he shoot free throws or shoot short jumpers? His video looks great, but it is all under the basket, just like Victor.

I'd say closer to 215ish. . . . in warmups & shoes. Dude is pretty slender. Karl Malone/Charles Oakley he ain't.

But I, and no one else, wants him to be. I want him tired from running fast breaks all game, not banging for rebounds.

He is a awful free throw shooter. I believe he shot somewhere in the 40% range
