About as much as it makes you look like someone who thinks they are holier than thou when it comes to recruiting.

Once his video was up and available for people to see, everyone was huge on his ability. He was one of the smoothest looking athletes LSU has recruited in awhile. There was no second guessing his offer -- the kid looked awesome on film

isn't this pretty much the definition of a diamond in the rough?

A guy no one has seen and didn't get enough credit

This either will blow this thread up or bring it to a screeching halt..............

From Gino's site:

Below was tweeted a few hours ago. My interpretation is "awesome" and "big bump" mean Spears will get 4 stars.
They also mention at the Rivals.com web site that Frank Herron, Lewis Neal, and Priest Willis as a safety (rather than CB) will receive significant bumps.

Mike Farrell ?@rivalsmike
WR Kevin Spears is one of te true hidden gems in this class, film is simply awesome and late bloomer. #LSU steal here. Big bump was in works

Nice to see some of the vets who actually know recruiting still at least lurk this part of the interweb.

define "diamond in the rough" however you want but NOBODY was on claiborne except for LSU and some very low end schools.

Claiborne was going to Nebraska before LSU offered.

Mathieu's best offer outside of LSU was Southern Miss. You can not convince me that he wasn't a "diamond in the rough."

Mathieu was a four-star, top ten rated CB, and in the Rivals 250.

More offers would have come but he shut down his recruiting early and let everyone know he was going to LSU.

If people knew how good TM7/Claiborne were going to be, they would've both been 5* athletes. They're the very definition of "diamonds in the rough." If they were just diamonds, they would've been recognized as such and would've been highly recruited. Seems pretty straighforward to me.

That being your best offer as a Louisiana recruit says that you are a diamond in the rough by LSU's standards. (Or even by Nebraska's standards.)

He was an athletic QB for a small off the radar school. Thats a good recipe for not getting the kind of recognition your athletic ability might deserve.

Mo was a 2 star when he committed. He got his 3rd star shortly after if I remember. The rant and some guys on the RB were bashing Miles for wasting a scholarship. Typical.

Been called everything possible in this thread. Good to see a familiar tag around these parts, GABlueDog.

You really have to distinguish between the guys that follow recruiting closely and post their perspectives and those who listen to Mike S and DP on the radio and check how many stars a guy has as their assessment. Apples and oranges.

What career related pretentiousness? I probably have more of a school bias than a career bias, although some careers are much harder to break into than others.

I have a thousand recruiting posts going back since I started on TDings if someone wants to analyze what I have said and what actually happened. I've already said multiple times I will 'eat crow' on Josh Williford playing, although he might get passed up on the starting line this year. Other than him, I don't have any glaring misses I can remember (it has been 4+ years )
