People from south Louisiana that know EVERYTHING about north Louisiana, yet most have never been there.

My goodness, is a coach displaying a jersey and hat that was given to him from a former player that big of deal?

It's not uncommon at all for players to bring their HS coach something from college. It's called a bond and lifelong relationship.

My friend has an Ole Miss helmet in his office. Perhaps I should call the Better Business Bureau.

Have you made him aware of the fact that there is an angry mob discussing his Bama shrine?

No if it was a jersey of the former player but this is just Alabama gear on the wall of a school in an area LSU has had a hard time recruiting of late.

What you've also never seen before is a former LSU Head Coach at Alabama.

Clearly LSU has made mistakes recruiting that area, perhaps taking it for granted, thinking that with very pro-LSU fans in that area they could put the weakest recruiter up there, who knows.

But at the end of the day IMO, this is largely a Saban problem. He's the best coach and recruiter of this era, he had ties to the area and targeted the whole state the minute he took the Bama job. Why do you think he hired guys like Burns and Davis? The Bama "pipeline" will disappear when he's gone.

or when they quit winning championships, or start losing 3-4 a year.

If people don't see how playing in the dominant program in front of stands that are not empty half the time appeals to top recruits, I don't know what to tell them.

I don't understand what you are saying here? Clearly Bama is the top program in CFB at the moment and that always gets interest from top recruits every where not just La. It happened with USC, FSU, Miami. But who is playing them in front of empty stadiums?

With Bama's recent success on the field and with Saban as the HC, they're going to get players wherever they go. Just a fact. We've done damn good keeping most our players at home faced with the onslaught from Bama

I was just being an a-hole about our stadium emptying out more times than most.

If you can't understand why a coach would put his players college gear on the wall then you haven't been around many high school coaches and you are without a doubt the definition of a Updyke style fan. A coach could be the biggest lsu fan in the world and still put bama stuff up, it's called a personal relationship with his former player. People are more important than sports teams to some people. My dad coached on a north la staff for 20+ years. The head coach played at ulm then called NLU during the time period that ulm and tech were hated rivals. But our coaches office was always covered with jerseys and pictures of former players that went to play at tech because that is were his former players signed. Some people are mature enough to put their fan boy status to side sometimes, unlike a lot of the idiots on this site.

I'm from BR graduated from Zachary. Then I went to school at NLU/ULM. Lived there 10 years Monroe west monroe. Most people up there are big LSU fans, with a few arkansas fans sprinkled in. North LA has never been Bama country. Saban just made it a priority and they've stolen 6 really good players from LSU

Me personally, I can see the difference between hanging the jersey of a fav former player that I coached (who happens to be at Bama) and just having random Bama gear.

To me it's like CFB vs. NFL, I love me some OBJ but damn I hate the NYG and their Black Bear QB. Yep, I'd hang a NYG OBJ jersey up any day. To a HS coach it's the next level, so there's a parallel.

An example of LSU losing NELA: just look at the annual LSU sports banquet. It used to be a big affair at the civic center, overflowing with people, big donors dropping a few grand on tables, etc etc.

Now it's a fried catfish lunch at Cypress Inn with about a dozen folks.
