For the last several years it seems to me that we have recruited top notch defenders. Whether it be speed in the outfield or playmakers up the middle. Many of those speed guys however have been missing two things, a big bat and a big arm. Our outfield and our lineup has been littered with guys who need to hit for average instead of guys who can hit with power and drive in runs(Duplantis type guys).

Would you rather recruit big time hitters and accept giving up a double here or there or increased errors for the sake of a potent lineup?

shite, please move to tRant

Pearson has both average and power. Plus he runs a 6.45 60. Just hope he makes it to campus.

Defense hasn't been our problem in Omaha, so I beg to differ

I must have missed all those titles we've won in Omaha under PM. Question.... Did Skip win with defense or power hitters?

An old axiom in baseball is that you can carry 2 starters who are weak hitters if they are great defensive players at key positions like SS or catcher. You can't have 3 weak hitters in the lineup.

In all sports. Doesn't matter. I'm not saying offense doesn't win you games, but defense will always win you championships. Have to have a mix of both.

Usually I am I the side of defense wins championships. But in baseball Its offense that wins. No doubt about it.

This is just something that is repeated because it is repeated. LSU won most of its CWS titles with offense first and foremost. Sure, you can't win with piss poor defense, but stellar defense won't make up for piss poor offense.

We've had piss poor offense the past couple seasons. With average offense and stellar defense you will win a lot of games

Stupid comparison. College baseball is in a totally different era than when skip coached.

Nuance. I want mickey mantle.
Impressive power, blazing speed, fields position with ease but obsessed with completing his 4 year degree in 3 at big state u. Promised grandmama to go to college before pro ball.

depends on your pitching, imo. great pitching can get by with an OK defense, esp with great hitting.

great defense can win you a lot of games it's just that it's not always as obvious as a timely hit.

Is pitching considered defense??

Speed is a huge factor in baseball these days

Obviously a team making 10 errors a game will not win championships but a team with a batting average of 150 will not win championship either.
