It’s no secret that the Tigers have a pressing need at linebacker, and Davis certainly fits the bill as a plug-in player. Last year, Les Miles and staff failed to secure a single commitment at the position. Of course, the focus has since shifted: LSU has already landed verbal commitments from outside linebackers Michael Divinity (Marrero, La.) and Erick Fowler (Manor, Texas) in 2016.

What did the program pitch to Davis?

“Coming in and playing early is possible,” Davis said, “That’s what they preached to me. They need me to come in and play early.”

Saturday’s visit marked the second time Davis has been to the campus since May when he last attended a team-oriented picnic. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior from Gordo, Ala., said his official visit granted him the opportunity to bond more closely with the coaching staff, players and support staff.

Per Davis, it confirmed what he already knew.

“LSU has always been at the top of my list,” Davis said. “It really assured me of what I thought it was in the first place.”
