Southern Lab linebacker Chris Allen committed to Alabama following an unofficial visit in late November, but his recruiting process is not over yet, according to multiple sources. Allen continues to be recruited heavily by LSU, his hometown school. There appears to be some LSU backers in his corner, so things could get interesting in coming weeks. If LSU is going to flip a commitment from another program, Allen is a likely candidate.

The LSU staff continues to evaluate new prospects, which led them to Orlando, Fla. native Nick Smith, who is currently committed to North Carolina State. The 6-3, 215-pounder caught the eye of area recruiter Corey Raymond, who is currently vetting the two-way prospect, who also plays tight end.

Oklahoma linebacker commitment Jacob Phillips remains in contact with the LSU staff, and the four-star prospect is worth keeping an eye on as National Signing Day approaches. Multiple sources appear to like their chances in flipping the Tennessee native, and an official visit is in the works, according to a source. Phillips wanted to visit during the season, but Ed Orgeron and staff elected to save all of its official visits until after the season, when a head coach was in place. At 6-3, 230 pounds, Phillips has the frame to play inside linebacker in the SEC -- a position the LSU staff is desperately trying to fill. Sources remain confident they can flip Phillips before he signs on the dotted line.

I pretty much quoted the entire NOLA article, but oh well, it was all worth noting.

That's the most optimistic view I've seen with Allen

Pretty nice strategery by LSU. Gives them a chance to make a bunch of noise leading up to NSD.

One thing is for sure LSU will come out with some great linebackers and there is always ones you think are better that are could've would've. Maybe some day soon we will get these type in but for now we just need great prospects not necessarily "the best" but then again we could very well land the best. I think as for as instate talent in the future will stay home and play for our tigers once they see the dramatic difference in style of play. I just like all the differences in this coaching staff recruiting to the last. We slow played way too many players we could have been recruiting heavily. Ed O will go after anyone and everyone no matter who is recruiting them and I like that.

If nothing else, it puts pressure on Bama to play defense. Unlike the earlier play for Bama's QB prospect, I can't see any downside in continuing to go after Allen. Rice is an ILB so I can't see how he'd get ticked off.

Flipping Phillips would be a hell of a coup.

If we somehow get Philips plus either Bryant or Chaisson, I won't be unhappy with this class...jmho

No way you could be unhappy with that or at least me. We will get what we need and they won't be scrubs you can bet that.

That time will come when LSU will get what they want. Say what you want about Ed O but I'm 100% positive he will at the very least have some grown arse men playing for LSU. If he doesn't work out the next guy will just be able to come in and win. I think he knows we need to fix the QB position, OT, LB, and DL positions to an ELITE level to compete for the playoffs every year and I believe he will do that. It will be up to scheme and coaching at that point. I think he does this and rejuvenates his coaching career. GT

If we end up with...
Queen
Rice
Phillips
Allen or Chaisson

then we'll have filled a position of great need with quality players that will challenge for PT in year 1. Boo-Yah!

So we'd rather take no one? Donnie alexander and duke riley weren't sure things. I know we have some time but in the end I'd rather take a chance on a player that wants to be here than no one, or a out of state player that's a lil better.

Looks like due diligence and persistence to me.

I know some recruit said Saban called him every Wednesday. Is that desperation?
