You buried the lede. He's considering enrolling early. Not even playing his senior year in high school. That's huge if that happens. Huge.

Thanks for the link. Holy shite that's exciting. He's a top 10 or 15 hs pitcher.

It's a little incomplete, but in the context of baseball recruiting and the draft, it makes some sense.

Marceaux loves LSU so much, in fact, that he is considering skipping his senior season entirely to get to the college early. That would make him ineligible for the upcoming draft, but (he hopes) put him in a purple and gold uniform sooner.

Wow awesome

Yeah, it would be huge if he does that. He's got very advanced stuff and would compete for a weekend spot immediately. We are at capacity on the roster currently, but fall practice starts next week. It's not uncommon for a spot to open up at semester break.

I hope it happens and I love his name; it's natural for LSU. but I always am reserved regarding stuff like this 'cause the pros fork over the money.

It is. Getting him eleiglble for 2018 would be a huge boost for the pitching staff as well as simply getting him on campus.

Excuse my ignorance, but how in the hell can a kid skip an entire year of high school and be eligible to go to college?

He wouldn't be able to skip the entire year. The writer probably just worded it poorly. He'd skip his entire baseball season. But he'd have to go to school for the first half of the year.

It's sorta redundant, in a way. Maybe he's an LSU commit whose expecting to be a high draft pick and he's considering fulfilling his commitment instead of going pro. IDK, just speculating here while I anxiously await basketball season.

they might do block scheduling where you take 8 credits a year and have 23 after your junior year

Most students who take advanced academic courses throughout high school are taking nothing but college classes by senior year now.

Although he could possibly help us this year, I'd rather him stay on his graduation pace. When he would be a college junior that extra year will be needed.

I don't have his age off hand but getting him to LSU early assures Mainieri and Dunn that he'll be on campus.

No telling how early he may get drafted if he remains in High School for the 2018 draft.

He turns 18 next month (he would not be a draft eligible Sophomore here).

My assumption, based on his Team USA performance among other things, is very high. The HS pitching crop this draft is extremely strong and he's one of the most polished in that group.

Getting him on campus early, to echo what you said, would guarantee that he pitches for LSU, so a benefit to LSU (and him obviously as this seems to be a lifelong dream of his), and allow him to start his pro career a year earlier than a normal 3 year college baseball player would, a benefit to him.

That's what I thought but didn't know for sure.

You either get him for two years in 2019 and 2020 or you have the possibility of having him for 2018, 2019 and 2020 if he enrolls early.

My exact thoughts. Having him on campus early is a win win for LSU. It doesn't matter how much or how little he would factor into the 2018 season he would have 6 months under the LSU coaching staff as well as advanced strength training before his high school class enrolls next June.

They need to do everything in their capacity to get him on campus.

He probably can graduate in December because of credits he received from taking honors or college courses.

It's no different than the football players who graduate early and enroll. Barash the C did it for LSU baseball several years ago but left to attend JUCO and finished up at A&M.

Only negative for baseball players is they pull themselves out of draft but it starts the clock ticking earlier for being eligible out of college.

Marceaux stock blew up like Enlow did vs learning under Dunn which might get you to majors quicker like it did with Nola, Gausmann and soon to be Hess who is draft eligible after his soph year due to age.

It would be a huge get and keeping him out of draft and he could help right away. LSU will likely lose a player due to playing time after fall ball anyway.

I know the Walker injury doesn't count against LSU 35 man roster. LSU is right at 35 now. If another player got injured which could happen with a pitcher not sure how many you can not count against roster as injured.

Well he’s pitching for Destrehan now and lighting it up. He will be great in purple and gold
