Would be interested to hear more about Reyes if anyone has seen him play. The commitment articles I've seen didn't specify if they wanted him as a position player or pitcher, but that was a year ago.

Hey Project I'm a big baseball fan and your work and info in that area (recruiting especially) for this site is greatly appreciated. It looks like for 2018 Brice Turang is the cream of the crop. He'll be tough to keep. You still need to recruit top tier guys like that as some do fall through the cracks.

It's meant to replace that one. While I mention the 2016 class in one post, the focus is on the 2017 class. The stickied thread has become outdated since the recruiting cycle for the 2016 class has pretty much wrapped up.

According to Perfect Game's commitment tracker LSU picked up another 2019 commit recently. Sam Hayden from California committed to LSU. His profile is linked in the 2019 list in the second post.

After having 8 commits (of 108 invitees) compete in the USA Baseball Tournament of Stars, 3 commits have made the USA Baseball 40 man trial roster.

Blayne Enlow - RHP (St Amant)
Tanner Allen - OF/IF (UMS-Wright)
Brice Turang - MIF (Santiago)

USA Baseball 18U Team Page

Among the coaches for the 18U team are Barbe HC Glenn Cecchini and former Teurlings Catholic star Brooks Badeaux.

Quite a few LSU commits have been competing with their summer teams in the World Wooden Bat championships in Georgia. This is a huge event across several age groups and serves as a big time scouting event for college coaches and pro scouts. I will link and excerpt some reports from Perfect Game:

Day 1 Notes
quote:

Devin Fontenot (2017, The Woodlands, Texas) was his usual solid self for C2 Select, working mostly 85-88 mph, generating solid sink on his fastball when down in the zone and showing quality deception in his delivery as well. He’s mostly around the plate but the command within the zone is a bit loose. The delivery has a bit of funkiness to it, and while it’s not violent, may be the cause of some of the command concerns. His weapon pitch on this day was the slider, which, at it’s best, shows very sharp tilt with two-plane break, a bat-misser vs. righthanded hitters and a bat-breaker vs. lefties.

Day 2 Notes
quote:

On the opposite side of the quad, Team Elite 17’s Prime saw its offense come to life. Two of their many offensive performers were first baseman/righthanded pitcher Nick Storz (2017, N.Y.) and Steven Williams (2017, Ga.). Storz hit possibly the hardest hit ball I’ve ever seen with a 103 mph home run off the bat that possibly apexed at 12 feet off the ground and nearly took out a car window. The strength and power the LSU commit possesses is awe inspiring with a simple swing to the ball and very impressive bat speed. Williams, an Auburn commit, drove the ball as well as any of his teammates collecting a trio of hits including a smoked double in the first inning. It’s a very simple, easy swing to the ball with good hand speed and some feel for timing allowing loud contact off the barrel.

Day 4 Notes
quote:

A verifiable giant of a human being with equally gigantic arm strength on the mound and raw power at the plate, righthanded pitcher Nick Storz (2017, N.Y.) took the mound for Team Elite early Monday morning, and got the 4th of July fireworks started by shooting flames out of his right hand. The Louisiana State commitment was electric early on, working 90-93 mph consistently with solid arm-side life down in the zone. His slider was a weapon on this day, continuing to make strides forward seemingly every time we lay eyes on him, showing improved sharpness, velocity, spin rate and amount of break, becoming more and more a true bat-missing pitch for him. The arm stroke is pretty clean and he repeats his delivery well, especially for a prospect of his size, and it's going to be very interesting to see over the next year where he projects better: On the mound or in the batter's box.

quote:

After a quality PG National performance, righthander Stephen Keller (2017, Texas) was on the bump for Phenom Texas in the late game at LakePoint Monday. The Louisiana State commitment showed a quality two-pitch mix that should play well in Baton Rouge, showing a fastball that topped at 89 mph before settling in at 84-88, and the strongly-built Keller projects for more velocity as well. His weapon pitch, once he found it, was the curveball, a pitch that he's able to throw easily from his near overhand arm slot, with powerful spin and sharp break, somewhat in between 11-to-5 and 12-to-6 shape. He was mostly around the zone with both pitches, and looks the part of a potentially hard-throwing reliever at the next level.

quote:

The Central Florida Gators are one of the best underclass teams in the event with loads of talented 16u players and have cruised to a 5-0 record thus far in the tournament. Led offensively by LSU commit and outfielder Elijah Cabell (2018, Fla.) as well as third baseman Nolan Gorman (2018, Ariz.), the Gators have outscored their opponents by a score of 30-3 through five games.
