Lets Talk About Max Staver

Seems like a good solid recruit:
Profile
Some Highlights (for those without sub)
Pros: great size, looks like a legit 6'4"-6'5" and 230 lbs; doesn't have a cannon but still a fairly strong arm; throws a nice ball with some touch and accuracy; looks like a passer not a thrower; does not throw the ball up for grabs; shows some ability to run for a first down when he has to
Cons: bit of a slow, windup release; decent footwork and ok mechanics, bit of a funky release and has tendency to throw off his back heels sometimes; competes against subpar competition; plays out of shotgun most of time so do not know for sure how comfortable he is under center and dropping back; looks like he might be a bit of a statue and when he runs he is slow and lumbering
Bottom Line: The ball does not come out as fast as Ferguson, who I think is more polished; not sure his arm is stronger than Ferguson or Jennings but I think he passes as well; I think Ferguson and Jennings both read and sense the rush and have more ability to move and make a pass on the run. It is hard to see how well he reads and senses the rush. Ferguson and Jennings both seem to move better and avoid pressure while at the same time having a quicker release. Still, he seems solid and I like him.
If I am placing him amongst the guys left on the board:
1) Ferguson
2) Jennings
3) Staver
4) Sandberg
5) Kincade
Thoughts? Opinions? Concurring, differing, and expounding all encouraged and appreciated.

I still like Sandberg more than most. But Max is my second option,I just dont think Riley likes us as much as people are saying, say can be said by LSU. Idk if they are in love with him.

I'm not sure what op is talking about, kid has a cannon and the strongest arm of anybody on our board right now.

I tend to agree with this

Would easily put him above Jennings

I think Ferguson's might edge Staver's.

Ferguson
McCarley
Kincade
I'll be happy with 2 of these 3 in the class

With a couple of years to compete for a starting position, most of those guys could probably be fine.
Just curious - why do most people rate Kincade lower than the other QBs left? Is it mostly a projection issue (i.e., do you think he is maxed out capability-wise)?
In terms of H.S. stats, Kincade seems to be head and shoulders above the rest. Plus he plays in TX.

Well, there has not been a whole lot of noise with LSU and these guys but things could change. For example, Ferguson has been mostly pursued by Alabama and Clemson. But, with Cooper Bateman committing to Bama, LSU may get noticed more by Ferguson.

For the Yahoo who asked what our chances are with Austin Allen a few days ago .... well like most of us said he would do, he has committed to ArKansas today. No shock ... hahaha

We should all be honest with ourselves at this point. Until Mett shows the world that LSU is a passer friendly place and that our coaches are willing to pass the ball around more often then LSU is not going to be an attractive destination for a top passing QB. Coaches recruiting against us use that and they also use the fact that Kragthorpe is dealing with a horrible disease and at any moment he may have to stop coaching.
The fact that Gunner Kiel last year committed to us only to back out at the last minute means nothing. Sure we got the guy to commit but he never made it here and we had to scramble to find a QB at the end. Jeremy Liggins is a project and is probably more suited for the DL then he will ever be at QB. And thats says a lot considering he has never played DL before. (God I hope Im wrong)
Im not sure where we should go from here as far as whats left at QB for this class but one thing is for sure is that we all better hope Mett turns this position around here so recruits will forget about LSU under Lee and JJ.

As retarded as that sounds, I feel like it's the truth.

All this means is that you have not watched any film on Jennings or Kincade. You have to back off the ledge some man, it is not as bad you are making it out to be.

Ive watched film on Kincade, Sandberg, Jennings, and the list goes on and on.
The only two guys left that I would personally feel good about coming into this program and helping out the QB positions would be Ferguson and Staver at this point.
Im not freaking out or close to the edge because if we can have the same season as we did last year with those two less than adequate QBs then Im not sure LSU even needs a QB with a pulse.
Id also like to say I like the Buchanan kid from Jackson, Miss. better than Kincade, Jennings, or Sandberg.

His highlights look great IMO

If you watched film on Kincade and did not come away impressed, then there must not be much that impresses you. I am not saying he is a superstar but if he was a 3 inches taller then he would have an offer from everyone in the country in my opinion.

You said it perfectly. These are definitely the problems with LSU's QB recruiting... And to be brutally honest, they are legit concerns, if I'm a QB.
I watched the Arkansas & UGA games from last season yesterday. The downfield passes were there early in the game. Jefferson just couldn't complete the passes, and once the run opened up, that's what the coaching staff stuck with. I think we will see a major change this year, and that will definitely help our QB recruiting for 2014.

Ok lets me put it this way ....
Its not that I think Kincade is not a good quarterback, because I do. Its that when you watch his highlights do you see the offense he runs and how he has to escape the pocket more times than not to find his reciever due to his height.
Now I know Ferguson, Staver, and Buchanan run similar types of offense but they are all 6'3" or taller and could adjust to our offense we are runing right now. Do you really see a 6' or 6'1" QB really excelling in the pro style that we run.
So yes height is my issue with Kincade and as for the other two, Sandberg and Jennings, its more as though that I feel Ferguson and Staver would just better suit LSU.
Sandberg to me is just a run first QB with an average arm who just finds way to make plays at the high school level.
