Turth be told JJ made a mistake because he is a CB going to UT to play in Monte's cover 2 scheme.
This means he will carry the "Cover 2" label all the way thru college and into the draft.
Cover 2 corners go in the 3rd round and no higher...its just the way it is.
Dumb move.

he went to play safety at UT, not DB
and cover-2 CBs go later in the draft because they're usually not as athletic as man corners
nobody is questioning JJs athleticism right now

Yeah but when you compare Loston as a Safety and then JJ
It seems to me that Loston is more a missile type of hitting safety like Laron
Jackson more of a cover safety, Just doesn't the build really at this point..
The good news is, LSu is loaded, and we can obsorb this loss...IMHO

the key guy in the tampa 2 is the MLB and WLB, the safeties are interchangeable parts that are INT hawks but not much more
look at all the different safeties they had at Tampa, none of them really stand out as great individual players. They just get a lot of INT chances

DE is still the most important position
then MLB, because it's hard to find the right guy
but yea, the secondary is lesser talent and they rely on the front 4 + MLB
WLB is important, but it isn't that hard to find adequate WLBs right now
still don't know where they're getting these stud DEs

yeah i was talking more about the back 7
a guy like Mingo would have been perfect for UT, long and rangy with the frame to get up to 285. But they would have had to wait two or three years for him to develop and with all the shite Kiffin is stirring up, UT is under the gun now

I know he is athletic. I think he will be pgeon-holed as a "cover 2 corner" because he will play zone coverage in that system his entire college career. He may have the abilities need to be a lockdown corner but his pedigree will be "cover 2 corner" and that equals 3rd round at best.
...its a huge risk at the very least.
