You know what being close got him?

Fired

Seriously though, you actually have to land recruits. Being close doesn't count for anything.

We kept Brick Haley, an absolutely terrible coach, on staff for years for "almost" getting the best players in the country.

Anytime a recruit says he didn't come to LSU because he wasn't recruited hard enough, means a change in staff is needed. Kudos to Coach O for recognizing the need for change.

This year Craig was the primary for:
Signees
Ferrell
Thomas
Narcisse

Did not qualify
Guidry

Notable guys that Signed elsewhere
Moses
Devonta Smith
Ausbon
Nico Collins
Rice

Jaluke:
Signees
McMath
CEH
Carter

Did not qualify
Guidry

Notable guys that Signed elsewhere
Akers
Etienne

Safe to say recruiting played a factor. Guidry academically not qualifying hurt a little. Also, both, Craig and Juluke had some huge recruiting losses.

And neither signed with LSU. Second is the first loser.

If Craig was indeed the recruiting coordinator and they lost 7/10 top instate guys, then yes, fire him. They can't take a chance on a repeat in 2018.

CJ ain't coming, he was coming, but that changed once the New Orleans WR coach position opened. As for Craig does this mean he is taking that OC position with Oregon after all?? Will miss the guy because he was a fine recruiter.

as a recruiter, he didn't land either. And little to show from AL/GA/FL panhandle. And did our receivers really get better? Chark maybe. Not Dupre.

I was not an O guy, but these moves were necessary.

Doesn't the OC/DC select the position coaches? They have a say in it I'm sure. This may have been Canada's call and O was doing his job and letting the coaches coach...I know, far cry from CLM.

Could be part of Canada's overall plan and bringing Curtis Johnson is part of that.

I think whiffing on Akers AND Etienne probably doomed Craig.

Maybe, but assuming you're referring to Mathis, sounds like the kid was just looking for any excuse to bolt.
