Is the Kliff Kingsbury hire good for LSU?
Posted by YMCA on 12/13/12 at 12:40 pm00
I would think kids that commit there are doing so b/c of Kliff and his Off. Do you think him taking the TT job some of the current TAM commits will have second thoughts. Which could put LSU back in the mix.

The only guy LSU would really want is RSJ, so no it doesn't affect LSU much. They are in good shape.

Probably won't affect any current commits, but in the long run it's certainly not bad for us when a major rival loses an integral part of its coaching staff.

It helps in the fact that I think Manziel has a sophomore slump due to his own hype (which is probably unavoidable due to him being 20 years old) and the change in coordinator. I mean lets think about it, how often does someone follow a great season with an even greater season. The odds are against him.
So yeah I'd say it helps, if even a little.

Kingsbury has to be some sort of master mind.
The stats that manziel and case keenum put up are unreal.

May help with Quinn, as Kingsbury was the guy recruiting him. But that's 2014

there's only one recruit Kliff really had a huge impact on, and thats QB Kenny Hill. He's the only one that could switch to Tech at this point.
Kliff wasn't really an ace recruiter.

as far as on the field i feel like it'll be plug and play for sumlin.
Yea I liken it to Saban and his defensive coordinators. People talking like the A&M offense is going to suddenly struggle are wishfully thinking.

Sumlin plays a big part in the offense.
I'd say so...I mean it's not like he came to A&M without any sort of offensive knowledge

Its their recruiting coordinator, forget his name, the one up for another job right now, that will be the biggest loss for them in that sense, but I dont think either of them leaving will impact the 2013 class that much.

OU fans have said that Sumlin has never actually designed his own offense or called his own plays, even when he was co-OC there. He has coached with some great offensive minds, though.

Of course they would say that...(OU fans)
When he took over the A&M offense with a Frosh QB (Reggie McNeal) halfway through the '02 season, the offense got dramatically better overnight.
It was too late to save RC's job though even with the upset of #1 OU. I think he's pretty confident in how to run his offense, and will find a suitable OC.

Polian is the ST coach/ recruiting coordinator.

What game did he take over that year? You would obviously know more than me on the subject, but just looking at the game scores the scoring didn't change much except for the pitiful early performance against VA Tech.

Mid season..a week or 2 AFTER the Va Tech game where they dared us to throw it and Babers (OC then) wouldn't. The production/ yds went way up, but we still found ways to lose games late..(Mizz, OSU etc)
The OU game was the 1st that McNeil had a large part in/ started.

Yeah, I can't speak for the yards or efficiency or anything, just saying the scoring itself didn't change much, aside from the apparent VA Tech debacle, which I understand he wasn't responsible for (and they were probably the best defense y'all faced that year).
So all we know for sure is that he called plays for half a season and was apparently pretty successful. I'm just not convinced he can plug any old air raid OC in and have the same results as he had with Kingsbury. Sumlin may very well be an offensive genius; I'm just not completely sold yet.

a&m's offense success was due and will be due to JFF, esp. his ungodly scrambling ability. JFF is worth 10 OC's. with JFF LSU would have won the NC and it wouldn't have been close. his value is his running ability. yes, he can pass pretty good but keeping the play alive for about a minute or scrambling for 10 yds to a TD is what separates him, even more so than michael vick was. w/o him, the aggies win 7 or 8 games. so yes, a&m's offense will be fine next year.
