Reminds me of when Dominque Wilkins was left out of the 50 greatest players of all time in the NBA.

Your argument against Livingston being the best high school player ever isn't with anybody on here, it's with coach k. Just because k thinks that doesn't make it gospel. Other longtime coaches may disagree with him.

My top 5 in no particular order: Randy Livingston, Karl Malone, Tweety Carter (He is still the highest scoring high school basketball player in U.S. history), Greg Monroe, and Javonte Smart. Smart moves into the top 3 all-time for me if he wins another state championship and gets Gatorade Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball again. He also needs to be a McDonald's All-American like the rest of the guys on this list,

Livingston was one of the smoothest players I ever saw, and I played a lil bit with him on the playgrounds of Nola even though he was much younger than me. If dude hadn't devastated that knee he would have gone far, but I know about knee injuries.

Carter is what, the highest scoring total points in high school?? It's not average because that's Bobby Joe Douglas as I just posted.

Carter was a volume shooter who would stay in games late up big to pad his point total.

Yeah. Tweety Carter has 7,457 total points which is the most in one high school career in the history of this country. Granted he played varsity since 7th grade but it's still unreal to think about. For most people hitting 1,000 points in a career is considered an incredible feat. Carter did that 7 and a half times.

That's like saying John Brady said Shawnson Johnson was the best center he's ever seen. Supposedly coach K has said this multiple times on XM radio in the last few years but only one tigerdroppings member Can attest to it.

I can tell you this Randy was a great talent before the injury, but he's so far from the best I've ever seen at the high school level.

1) Kobe Bryant
2) LeBron James
3) Allen Iverson
And the list goes on and on with randy not even being close to the top.

I mean he was 2x NPOY. It's not that inconceivable he could have said that.

Pretty sure I heard points from 7th and 8th grade don't count toward official totals

I will never forget getting to play some pickup basketball games with Livingston when he was in high school and I was in college. Obviously he could have taken the ball and dunked it every time if he wanted too. However he got excited about being the floor general and distributing the ball. He would say pass me the ball, not so that I can shoot but so i can get it back to you in a better position to score. And he would. Unbelievable court vision. Never played with anyone like him.

They do. Also have to remember that Reserve used to play 50-60 games a year. Class B schools didn't have the schedule restrictions everyone else did.

Too bad Bill Russell's family moved west when he was 8. Otherwise he would have owned this category. Or maybe not. Could have been killed, beaten or who knows because of racism in those days.

Basiletiger,

You are saying Livingstone was good but not on the level of Kobe, Lebron, Allen Iverson, etc...

Look at the damn thread title... it says Louisiana HS Basketball, not USA, not Cali, Philly, New York, just LOUISIANA!!!!

He's responding to an assertion someone made that Coach K stated Livingston was the best high school player he's ever seen.

I don't think 7-8 grade counts. As I mentioned in an earlier thread Greg Procell has the career scoring record for high school in USA at 6,702 career High School Points. See below an article I copy/pasted.

10. Greg Procell’s career scoring record
When Tom McMillen of Mansfield, Pa., concluded his historic career with 3,608 points in 1970, press releases announced that McMillen was likely the country’s all-time career high school scoring leader. But in Noble Ebarb, La., 3,608 points was just a little bit more than Greg Procell scored in his senior year. Playing in one of the smallest divisions in the state of Louisiana, Procell scored 3,173 points his senior year for a 46.7 per game average during a 68-game season. Procell finished his career with 6,702 career points, which is still 1,335 points more than the second player on the list.
