Also the former chris jackson.
Everyone today raves about Curry, but CJ was equally as impressive a shooter as Curry. Dude was unbelievable at LSU and dominated his HS games. I saw one game against Brother Martin as his school was right around the Biloxi area, and the dude could single handedly beat Martin by himself if he wanted to. He would dribble like a globetrotter, cross the half court line and release a J right after he crossed and turn back around to jog back for defense before the shot hit. Lol He was also a phenomenal athlete, Curry could not do the things he could such as catching alley oops down low like he did at LSU and stuffing it with his explosive leaping ability. And he did all this while having the Tourette syndrome.

CJ was good, but he was in no way as good as curry. He had a good NBA career, but nothing like curry.

lestiger please read the entire discussion before asking a question.

One of the posters suggested that Duke head basketball coach said "Randy Livingston was the greatest High school basketball player he's ever seen."

A large portion of the conversation is about past high school talent on a national level.

I didn't say his career was as good as Curry's because I know he had a short NBA career for various reasons, health issues and Muslim issues being a couple. I said he was as good a shooter as Curry and that is without doubt as well as a better athlete, also without doubt.

In all honesty even though I myself touched on the Randy Livingston-Coach K conversatiom, I never intended for this thread to be about Livingston specifically or high school basketball on the national level. I understand that the consensus is that Livingston holds the crown of LA High School Hoops but now I want to know WHERE DOES JAVONTE SMART FALL ON THE LIST. I may end up changing the title of the thread to "Where does Smart rank all-time among LA high school basketball players?". Also I saw someone suggest Seimone Augustus, but I'm focusing exclusively on male high school players.

It's a good thread. Lot of different opinions. Javonte is a special talent and ranks in the top 15 in my opinion.

Randy's senior year they barely beat port barre and willie davis in the playoffs. Some games Randy was ultra impressive. Others way too passive.

Well Willie Davis was a great athlete and cousin to the small town Davis clan in Leonville starting with Joe Davis, James Davis, Walter Davis, Harold Davis (same age as me) and the best athlete I ever saw Donald Davis. Those guys could ball. I lived between Arnaudville and Leonville and learned to play hoops at the Leonville courts behind their old gym. Amazing athletes!!! Also, their cousin, also named Walter Davis was the great LSU and USA triple jumper

1. Randy Livingston- Hands down the best ever in La. maybe the nation...Smoothest guy I ever saw play the game.

2. Michael Cutwright- Zwolle at the time Class A or AA. What he did at the Assembly Center in a high school top 24 was amazing. I believe it was in 1986 when I graduated high school. He could pull up past the NBA 3 point line and drain them constantly. Never seen shooting like that. Dale Brown was sitting near me with John Williams' mother as he was recruiting him or he had already enrolled. Cutwright played for the Denver Nuggets.

3. Greg Procell- Ebarb High School Class C
Points in High School- 6,702 most ever in the USA with 3,173 points in his senior season (47.6 Average). He scored 51 points in a game as a freshman and had a 100 point game in a tournament game. He scored 20 or more in 138 consecutive games. All of this without a 3 point line. Ebarb was a small school with only 39 boys in the whole 9-12 grades and they played top BB schools with enrollments of 1,000-2,400 students like Woodlawn and Haughton and held their own for being a Class C school.

4. Willie Jackson- Sibley in Webster Parrish from 1977-1980 Class B. In 1978- 1979 and 79-80 season they won 100 straight games and Jackson averaged in the 30's. They went 58-0 in the 79-80 season where I saw him play against my home town of Arnaudville where they edged us out in the Semis of the Top 24 tournament in Alexandria.

5. Me- Averaged 24 ppg in high school- Arnaudville High, also Class B... We small school guys could ball!!

Other greats, Honorable Mention- Karl Malone, Joe Dumars, Robert Parish, Bill Russell, Benny Anders, John "Hotrod" Williams, Greg Monroe

Hey Jackass, 2 out of the 3 small school kids I referred to played in the NBA... Not biased, just smart when it comes to BB.

You dam right I am. Whats the fricking difference when they end up drafted and play NBA ball. So they are playing against NBA players then, so what difference it makes because they are great players and just so happened to be born in a small town and played against small town kids. I am not biased on just North La small schools because I am from the South.

I did play small school ball in Class B, but that is all we did, no football. I played against 2A, 3A, 4A and even 5A schools. We played against Cecilia and the Boudreaux twins and Festus their best player and beat them, we played against Opelousas High, Lafayette High, Teurlings, STM, Woodlawn, etc.... and held our own.

Michael Cutright, Randy Livingston and Willie Jackson were the best 3 I saw play the game... and I played it from a young kid to last cut walk on at LSU.

Bobby Joe Douglas Marion High (La) averaged 54 points a game, a high school record on the national level I think, I forgot about him til you started talking about ppg averages for past players. He scored 93 points in a game against Quachita C High in '79 I think. He played ball collegiately at NE La now LA Monroe in '81 I think. I played ball at JFK HS New Orleans as a PG around the same times and averaged 24 ppg and 12 apg if they had kept count back then. I went to TTech to play ball in '81 that ended quickly from a devastating knee injury. But I don't like to bring up my playing days as an athlete on here because people think you're lying and just being a braggart. I exceled at all 3 sports though growing up playing ball since lil league days in Pontchartrain Park in New Orleans, good times. LINK

yeah, man no problem. It's just crazy to me that the guy is not in the LA sports HOF after setting a record like that alone. Dude scored 93 on Quachita and 77 on Neville.
