Football IQ (by Bama standards) on Friday. He was pretty fair in expecting 2-3 losses this season, and knowing that although still elite, that Bama has slipped.
However, the part of my conversation with him that really got me thinking was that he said that N. Louisiana is now an area where Bama has really gotten a foothold in the last few years on the recruiting trail. He asked me why that was and to be honest, I didn't know the answer.
What is the reason for this? Is Bama taking some players that we wouldn't to get the big fish? Has LSU slipped in the area? Or is Bama just out working LSU?

No you didn't. You may as well have said you just had lunch on the moon or that you just hung out with Elvis.

There are plenty of NELA posters that can shed more light on this, but i suspect maybe some combo of those listed prehaps more of the later.

The minute Saban was hired at Alabama, he was going to target La for recruits. He hired guys like Burns and Davis with ties to La. It is a pretty easy drive over apparently and not all that much further. From what i gather, Coach O and the staff are working hard to reverse the trend, but as long as Saban is there, we will have to fight tooth and nail.

I'm pretty sure we had stud recruiting that area for a year or two and he screwed us there. Now we have a great staff and should be fine.

I dont know the reason but a school teacher friend of mine says most of her kids are for bama. She hates it cause she is a big LSU fan. She fusses at them of course. (Monroe area)

Why are we not doing the same in Bama? Gotta fight dirty with dirty otherwise we're going to stay #2.

-Alabama's success, especially against LSU
-Alabama is investing money recruiting the area
-Tuscaloosa is only 1 hour further of a drive than to BR

You have 2 teams to fight, not just one, then throw in FSU that is also relatively close to Mobile, is it worth the time and effort? I can see arguments both ways, though with Steele now on staff if does appear we are offering more Bama guys.

In fairness, Bama has a foothold basically anywhere they want to focus their efforts. Won't last forever.

N La totally different from S La. I don't even think they think they are put of LA sometimes.

I don't have a clue. I grew up in a little town not too far from Monroe. Everyone I ever knew was an LSU fan. I only saw Bama stuff coming around when they started winning everything.

I hate bandwagon fans. Unfortunately that bandwagon has been running for a while.

Real answer or Boogeyman answer? Boogeyman answer is bagmen buying all the kids. Real answer is Stud was a lazy bastard that didn't recruit the area, never answered or returned phone calls or texts, and was flat out worked. Now that he screwed up, you have 4-5 kids from the area that help recruit new kids. All you have on LSU's team from here currently is Diarse.

Hell even TCU has outworked LSU on the I-20 corridor the last few years. They have 4 Monroe area guys on the team. I know some will turn up their nose at TCU, but they're sitting at #2 in the preseason.

Now...O is making it his mission to take the area back. Peveto is doing a great job too as he's been here much more than Stud ever was. When some WM guys came down to the LSU 7 on 7 tournament with the Bootleggers he spent most of the day talking with them as well as Cam Lewis and Boatner-WM OL. The effort is being put forth now and I look for the Bama trend to stop.

How many kids from N La have they got in the last 3 years turned out to be great players. Cam is the the best one so far. The rest either wasn't offered, didn't fit our scheme or we had better players committed.

I will say that there is an Alabama following in the area though. Two kids that played with my son were big Alabama fans.

I taught at Scotlandville ( all black school in N BR) most kids were Bama or Oregon or FSU (whatever team was hot). Hardly any liked lsu, they said lsu was boring. Most kids also thought that lsu was just a white school that was racist. And no blacks went there other than a few athletes, of course they got that from their parents or grandparents but it was hard to dispell.
