How much, if any, did #5for5 change your outlook on recruiting?

It changed my entire outlook on recruiting. I will always care about LSU football but I just don't ever see myself getting that involved in the whole recruiting process again. The world was ending after the all-star games then the staff turns around and pulls in some major additions late and ends up with the #2 class. I think I'll just enjoy Wednesday for what it is.

my interest in recruiting had waned well before that day.

Well quite honestly that probably made my recruiting addiction what it is today.

But that day definitely made me learn to take the predictions and crystal balls with a grain of salt.

I find recruiting exciting.
5/5 showed me you can't trust anyone in the recruiting business,
It did not make me waiver.
This shite is exciting.

It was a watershed moment, but as with any of these kinds of moments a lot happened to build up to that point. The 2012 class was a foreshadowing of 2014. Right now I just want to see the fence put back up. We've done well this year after a rough start, IMO.

Landon Collins set me up earlier and then the 5 for 5 ended my super fanatic extreme following of recruiting. Now I save my celebrations for only those who are true tigers. I don't let the hope get out of control.

All 5 for 5 did was confirm what we already knew, these kids are good at playing games and no inside info is guaranteed. These kids and their advisors/family intentionally mislead reporters these days.
While I don't agree with the tactic I do see some of the reasons they do it. They get hounded constantly by team and national reporters who report every word and rumor they here intentionally trying to be first and trying to steal these kids moment while in the same sentence or report saying they don't want to steal a kids moment. Its their job to steal that moment. Honor and respect is severely lacking in all levels of the multi million dollar recruiting business. Its not anything but business now and as with all media driven businesses, its gone to shite morally. I still love it and honestly don't have an issue with any of the "evils" of it. Only issue I take with recruiting is the outright lying that kids do to coaching staffs and the personal involvement that some of these "reporters" have in recruiting for the school they cheer for. Those 2 things are crossing the line on any level. If you're gonna love recruiting and follow it religiously then you have to have an open mind to the bad side of it and not take it too seriously. Just enjoy it. Its a grown mans(and some women) real life soap opera.

Same here. I reserve my excitement for people that actually will be Tigers. Kinda boring to others, but otherwise we're just feeding into the shite show.

It showed how much these kids would rather try and get camera time than be recruited.

For me it changed my perception of how much those "in the know" i.e. the recruiting gurus, actually have no clue. It made me very happy that I have and never will spend a dime on recruiting subscription services.

5/5 wasn't a huge blow to me really. The first blow for me following recruiting was Janzen Jackson.
What he did was worse than 5/5 IMO

I'm happy with Fournette and Adams

Brown was meh. Willis was crazy. Speedy made the right decision for himself.

I don't believe anything that prospects or writers say until the ink is dry and sent it.

Recruiting today is a sport to itself played seemingly without any rules, e.g., "commit" means ?

I follow it. It's a big factor in success. It's just a strange sport.

hindsight of this class changed my outlook on recruiting.

2006
HEAD COACH LES MILES | CLASS BREAKDOWN
OL Matt Allen, Spring, Texas (Collins)
S Shomari Clemons, West Monroe, La. (West Monroe)
LB Jacob Cutrera, Lafayette, La. (Acadiana)
DT Charles Deas, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Dillard)
TE Richard Dickson, Ocean Springs, Miss. (Ocean Springs)
WR Ricky Dixon, LaPlace, La. (East St. John)
CB Jai Eugene, Destrehan, La. (Destrehan)
DB Troy Giddens, Hammond, La. (Hammond)
WR Trindon Holliday, Zachary, La. (Northeast)
DE (Pep) Lazarius Levingston, Ruston, La. (Ruston)
OL Philip Loadholt, Fountain, Colo. (Garden City, Kan. CC)
TE J.D. Lott, Shoal Creek, Ala. (Briarwood Christian)
S Danny McCray, Houston, Texas (Westfield)
WR Chris Mitchell, Marrero, La. (John Ehret)
WR Jared Mitchell, New Iberia, La. (Westgate)
RB Richard Murphy, Rayville, La. (Rayville)
LB Derrick Odom, Jackson, Miss. (Callaway)
LB Perry Riley, Ellenwood, Ga. (Stephenson)
RB Charles Scott, Saline, La. (Jonesboro-Hodge)
LB Kelvin Sheppard, Stone Moutain, Ga. (Stephenson)
OL Steven Singleton, Buford, Ga. (Buford)
OL Mark Snyder, Kenner, La. (West Monroe)
CB Jason Teague, Carthage, Texas (Carthage)
OL Zhamal Thomas, New Iberia, La. (New Iberia)
RB Keiland Williams, Lafayette, La. (Hargrave Military Academy)
DT Al Woods, Elton, La. (Elton)

Phil Loadhort and Charles Deas (who bought an awesome suit to announce he would play for the lavendar and gold) never made it to Baton Rouge.

Keiland was going to win at least 2 heismans.

Jai Eugene flipping from Michigan late to LSU was the beginning of DBU.

Derrick Odom was either a 4 star or 5 star LB whose only real contribution to the team was beating up a car at the varisty. He wound up not starting at The University of Memphis.

On the other side-- Kelvin Sheppard was a "nobody". He didn't even have his own jersey, which led to many people bitching about Perriloux playing on special teams.

It's fun to get caught up the excitement. But I don't let kids decision on where to play football have any affect on my day.

Honestly? In hindsight it was much ado about nothing. Funny to see how much we built it up, pretty much set ourselves up for that disappointment, but ultimately LSU got the best 2 players of the fivesome. Also the two we needed the most.

It would've been great to have Speedy and Tony Brown, but oh well. And it appears we dodged a huge bullet with GW.
