We spent something around 350k in 2012 on recruiting.

The standard reasoning for LSU to have such a small budget is because most of our targets are local, we don't need to fly nearly as much as other schools.

I completely disagree with this premise. We are allowed unlimited in home visits with kids who will let us show up at their house. Sure, les can only make one, but why aren't we flying Raymond out to visit adoree twice a week? Swing through Texas and hit up Ed Paris, Tony brown, and Jamal Adams while you're at it.

Go ahead and send brick to Miami twice a week, maybe more. Go GET these kids.

Let FW do what he does best, which is lock shite down. Expand his territory. Expand the ranks.

How? Why? I'll tell you. The NCAA had a rule change a year or so ago. We are allowed unlimited coaching staff and salary for coaches now. They have strict limits on contact with players on campus, but are allowed unlimited visits, calls, and texts to recruits.

Alabama is hiring HS coaches left and right around the country. We should be too.

I don't want to hear that we only recruit Louisiana, because that's completely false. We should hire some respected coaches at powerhouse programs around the entire southeastern region of the US. They local talented kids know them already, we can supply them with a pimped out LSU colored ride, and keep them stocked with LSU gear to pass out.

You let these extra "coaches" text, call, and visit tier local studs. Shuttle them to our camps, come even work our camps.

This is a completely legal practice, and we should invest a few million into it. LSU pulls in an actual profit, one of four schools in the country that does.

I bet better classes would result in better teams, which brings in more revenue and profit.

I don't think anyone disagrees.

Then you raise ticket prices to account for it, or charge for parking, and everyone bitches.

And while they're flying everywhere all week, when do you propose the coaches actually coach the team??

And we already do leave the state to go get people.

Alexander, Pocic, Garrett, Toliver Robinson etc.

LSU is working the recruiting trail. Other factors come into play that we will never know anything about. Give the coaches a break; they are doing their jobs.

Honestly if we got the guys from Monroe, no one would question recruiting budgets etc. We missed on guys who aren't far away and our OOS recruiting has been fine.

The OP does make a great point about hiring more individuals in the recruiting dept. Bama is doing this and it's giving them inroads to places all over especially Northeastern LA. We need to do this and let those guys keep the pace on recruiting.

That way out actual coaches can coach our current players. But I think we are missing out by not upping the recruiting budget and get more individuals involved in our recruiting dept.

Easy example, hire a premier high school coach in South Florida and pay him 100k. Tell him his job is to use his reputation to visit with all the kids and push LSU. Even if he just gets us 1 4* kid a year it creates a brand perception that hey LSU is strong everywhere and they are a premier brand. It's a long term move that future coaches after Miles could benefit from.

We hear the same story every time we lose someone we covet.

We were out worked. I'm not pointing fingers, but you never heard that from someone FW is on.

I think that's the issue more than our coaches being "out worked." Our coaches are being "out manned" and that's just not something they can control, really.

Well put.

We lost the Monroe guys three years ago when Bama hired came uncle as a camp staffer.

to add to the OP, just as an afterthought really...

There are LEGAL ways to use boosters. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing LSU may be both a little behind and shy about this.

you always have to be careful getting sucked in to playing your opponents game, but no doubt LSU needs a much stronger, all-encompassing "marketing" plan to get deeper into key communities and high schools.

Exactly!!! Our coaches can only do so much. In my opinion the top 3 recruiters in the SEC are Saban, Frank Wilson and Les Miles. That's 2 out of top 3 in the premier conference. But Bama out mans us.

We didn't have anyone there in an LSU polo when Quinn broke the record but apparently Clemson did. That can't happen. Same thing with Hooties mom, we could have had someone who calls her weekly and been there to take care of her. Some people blow this off but all we had to do was that and we might have had a better shot.

There's a reason Bama out works us. Let's say Frank calls a recruit twice a week. And then let's say Kirby Smart calls twice a week. However Joe Staffer from Alabama three other times and makes a call to the parents once a week. That's building relationships. Joe Staffer is also visiting more because he doesn't have to coach any players or games. He's there on OVs and the parents are comfortable cause he speaks to them once a week. Joe Staffer is giving the recruit and all his friends free Bama gear.

Now reading that, LSU has no one on the depth chart for example to play WR for this recruit so he'll start right away. Bama has 6 5* receivers. Lsu has had 4 1st rd picks at WR in the last 5 years that are all Pro Bowlers and Bama had 1 who is 2nd string. The better business and future decision is LSU.

However the 1st part about all the stuff with Joe staffer is going to win the recruit a majority of the time. It's all going to win the parents a majority of the time because they are still new to the process. Look at April Justin with LC and GW3. She has even said Bama didn't live up to everything they told LC and so she is wiser this time and so is GW3. That's why is he is probably going to be a Tiger.

All we have to do is get our own Joe Staffers and while we will still lose guys to Bama, we will be in play more and help the percentages continue to grow in our favor regarding recruits. Especially the high end talents.

You articulated my thoughts perfectly.

We need a few dozen joe staffers.

I love this plan. Get somebody in Cali and sombody who works Ohio or the Carolinas too.

Adoree is a bad example. Even if a coach flew private, to fly back and forth to LA from BR twice in one week with practice, preparation and family is impossible.

He is a perfect example.

We should have an LSU paid coach that lives in LA that builds these bridges years in advance of their NSD.
