I was reading the Philosophy vs. Execution thread over on the rant.
It was said that
quote:

It comes down to OL and DL recruiting
which I agree with, keeping in mind Les' philosophy.

Does anyone have any idea what our recruiting strategy is?
Do we gauge initial interest on the recruit's part, and then pursue if they are LSU type talent, regardless of position?
Kind of a "get the best we can get" mentality.
Or.
Do we throw the initial interest level of the recruit out the window and recruit purely based on implementing Miles' philosophy. Meaning, we throw all resources into getting those 4 and 5 star linemen regardless of location, and accept the risk that we may lose out on some "Donte Jacksons" or "Tryon Johnsons."
Kind of a "get the best we need" mentality.

It seems to me that we get the best we can get, which I'm not sure is the best fit for "our" philosophy.

We are always recruiting for need, when we should be ahead of the curve and recruiting for depth.

I agree with this mostly, but I believe that the reason why we are always doing this is because we go by best we can get. Some classes we'll sign 7-8 DBs and 1 or 2 DL and LBs. That's because we can get 7-8 highly recruited guys at DB, but not much on the DL. We should shift our focus to getting the guys on the DL and OL that we can get even if they are guys that may take a few years to see the field.

Then you are never in jeopardy of going on a drought at a position like we are constantly doing.

Coach Miles has always tried to sign an obscene number of tight ends and fullbacks.

Our depth always leaves for NFL creating need. Won't be an issue when you folks run off Miles.

If you havent read the book Meat Market, its a good read on behind the scenes recruiting, especially now that Coach O is a Tiger.
