Garrett Brumfield article from the Advocate
Posted by covlatiger on 6/25/13 at 6:48 am30
Wish more families were like this...
Garrett Brumfield
Garrett Brumfield
quote:
“I’ve always told him football is your dream and I support you,” Brumfield’s father, F. Paul Brumfield, said. “But football is going to come to an end some day. What you put in your head stays forever. We’ve always stressed education with him since he was in elementary school.”
quote:
“We wanted Garrett to make a decision based on what each school offered. Every family handles the process differently. We’re not media hounds. I don’t believe in putting three hats on the table and picking one on signing day. We wanted him to make a decision.”

Too bad more people don't think this way

I doubt anybody else noticed it, but the article had all of his offers listed alphabetically except arkansas. They were last I just thought it was amusing. And yes this kid really seems to have his head on straight and come from a good family.

I dont like that either but I believe it's some old joke that surrounds the board that everytime something good happens, you f*p...it's stupid to me but it seems to always come up...of course, they are not really doing that tho

I totally agree. They are handling it well. Contrast that with some of the attention hounds (families/players) you see. Many of these football players are not exactly elite students in the classroom. It's nice to see a parent mention academics as a top priority. Think of the life of former professional football players. Many of them end up broke, with major health issues, and in constant pain for the rest of their lives. I look at former players like Tommy Casanova and Matt Mauck and their success post football. Education and planning set them up for life.

Class Act! With all the attention on the U-High football players that started with Tim Williams, then Nicholas Brossette, now Dylan Moses, after reading this article you can tell who the REAL leader of that team is! Kid has class! He and his folks don't brag and boast, he just goes out and gets the job done! He earned it on the field and in the classroom through hard work! I can see a lot of the current class of 2014 prospects dragging things out for no reason other than to gain attention! I see it coming from others behind this class as well! As Garrett's dad called them, "media hounds"! I can see Garrett anchoring the LSU O-Line for three years, winning a couple of championships with the Tigers while being named All-SEC, and becoming a 1st round NFL draft pick! Don't underestimate him! Some of the up and coming players and their parents could learn a thing or two from this family! Bravo Wildman and Garrett!

Enough good things cannot be said about this young man! He is "The Man" on that team! I really don't feel they would have had the success they've had the last two seasons without him leading the offensive line! All those yards and touchdowns Brossette got last year came from running behind Brumfield! Hopefully the same will occur when he suits up in the purple and gold! Players like him have EARNED their place in this recruiting class through their play and work ethic!
