Earl Lane was the guy who got us into Miami, the most fertile recruiting region in the nation. he also is the recruiter of record for the 3 most highly rated recruits that live the farthest from Baton Rouge (peterson, barksdale, and montgomery).

should we have found an way to keep this guy as a recruiter even if we had to get rid of someone like robinson (who is not recognized as a great recruiter and does not get us into a new recruiting region like miami)

I think we will

Brick has no good DL recruits seriously on the radar in his first year ..not good

Lane was a victim of the DCs sucking last year, but he pulled in some talent in his years here, particularly from an important recruiting region (FL)

NOOOOO!!!!! His DL rotations were some of the worst I've ever ween. WHY oh why did Charles Alexander play so much last year, while Nevis was on the bench? Why didn't Alem get on the field until his Junior year? Why was Woods admittingly 20lbs overweight before this year? I could go on and on.

Yes, LSU has lost some traction in Florida. But that is minor compared to how bad of a coach Lane was.

Haley's 1st recruiting year may not have been great, but it's not over yet. Maybe he can pull something up his sleeve at signing day. And even if he can't, he deserves a second chance at it next year. The DLs in this region this year just sucked, it's as simple as that.

And you have missed that Haley has built some good relationships with recruits. Zach McCray from Va was one. JR Ferguson is another. It is just a difficult thing to pull.

Oh, and he should deserve some credit for closing on Montgomery.

What we lost in recruiting we'll make up for with better teaching...and that will bring in recruits as well eventually.

Isn't Earl Lane still on adminstrative staff? He could still "recruit".

Not on the defensive line, he doesn't. If he did, Nevis wouldn't be starting over Alexander right now. And Chavis wouldn't have buried McCray on the bench like he did in the spring.

Thankfully, we no longer have idiots running the D.

Agreed...in 2007 we didn't have great number of tackles for a loss and sacks to the level that we should have had in spite of (all the talent) Dorsey being an All-American and winning all the DL awards. Yes he was constantly double teamed, but were the other DL guys able to capitalize on Dorsey being double teamed? Tyson Jackson's worst year was that year as a JR starter. Alexander got hurt, Favorite and Woods were average, Francois was academically ineligible, and Nevis played hard but had little experience.

I blame Earl Lane...plain and simple. And, I think this lead us to losing the two games we lost in 2007 in spite of the NC.

you missed the point

the fact that he could have this rumor gain any real strength shows just how little respect people had for his coaching

so you dont KNOW. that is what i thought

oh i KNOW he didn't teach the DL shite and was generally lazy and unmotivated as a coach

but he's a hell of a recruiter who did open doors in florida

no. point is, I could start a rumor that sfp is a jackass. i dont know this, but the rumor could grow. especially when you refer to yourself in the third person. WOW
