Before the influx of social media, I don't ever recall recruits "narrowing" down to 10 choices via announcement.
Now this seems to happen with half of the top 100 players.

It's because every school has a recruiting board like this and pay services out there hounding the kids to give them new updates all of the time. Makes me appreciate the Tra Whites of the world that picked LSU and shut it down.

If seen plenty of top 18 list and maybe even top 20. No way you can see yourself potentially going to that many schools.

I'll never understand why message board posters want to attack potential recruits

Usually the same posters that ask for updates on players when they don't say anything about their recruitment for a time. People just looking for something to bitch about. We created this market for recruiting services and are complaining about the kids taking advantage of the attention we demand, it's silly to get upset over it.

To be fair, recruiting fanatics asked for this. Not directly, but you know what I'm saying. They pay for recruiting stuff, so these guys will hound them about releasing a top 5 or 10 among other info. The younger kids see that and if they weren't already following along, they are egged on to by classmates (sometimes the classmates are pushed by their father to ask), scouts, and hell, probably even relatives.

As much as it burns me recruiting the best players has become an year round off season second sport. I do think we the fans have created this but I also see so many handle it the right way.

For every kid that does it like a jerk and create a media circus there are the terry beckners.

If I had a kid that was a top recruit we would just be quiet. They can call all they want to and they would get the same answer until we are ready to speak. Media doesn't control the recruitment the parents, coaches and kids do.

Devin is a very talented athlete.
But he is still a young man, and not a mature adult.
I hope he doesn't let the attention go to his head and cause him to handle this process in a manner he might regret later.
I know that I remember how athletes handled their recruitment, and the classiest ones did so without a lot of games.
This announcement of a whole bunch of schools is not a step in the right direction IMO.
Hope he becomes a Tiger and does so like a gentleman ( hope that term is not a liability).
