Apparently you're not old fashioned enough. Girls were married at 13 fairly recently in American history.

However, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the father, who reported the crime, might have some grudge against the two young men.

Probably a white girl. Just saying...

I would bet the house that it is a white girl whose dad wouldn't have pressed charges had it been white boys involved. It wasn't long ago that the schools in that parish were still fairly segregated.

First of all, it was a white girl and her parents are fairly prominent in the town. I don't know them personally but IMHO their actions have only served to harm their daughter. They were pissed as any parent would be but damn, slow down and think about what it is going to do to your kid to turn it into a regional story in the news.

The segregated schools comment is silly, though. Minden and Springhill are the two biggest towns in the parish and their schools have been completely integrated since, well, integration. There were a couple of very small high schools that were mostly white because their communities were mostly white. Those small town schools were absorbed via consolidation a few years ago.

Nothing about Webster Parish is segregated.

Didn't Jeremy Hill have that same issue in high school and came out ok?

An analogy that doesn't work. Marriage at a young age is not the case w/ this instance, is it? And if you were to ask my kids, they'd probably tell you I AM old fashioned enough.

How does being married change this situation at all. If a 14 year old can't consent when she is single, she can't give consent when she is married.. And this isn't an issue that is new. Kids have always had sex. Thee were no good old days where teenagers kept it in their paints. That is a fairytale.

First, I'm not the one who brought up the inaccurate marriage analogy. Second, what's different about the two situations is a legal issue. Despite what many think, there are still legal and illegal acts. A common philosophy today is a person can do whatever they want to as long as they're not hurting anyone else. That may be true, but as in this situation, there may be potential legal problems to deal w/. If you do the research you'll see that even in states that allow a 14 year old to obtain a marriage license, there are usually many restriction nevertheless.

there's so many laws for different states, but usually if you are within a certain number of years of the person and you are both under 18 an above 13? it is okay to have sex if consensual..

Springhill is my hometown. I prob know all the parties involved. We're talking about sex w/ a 14 year old girl. Maybe I'm just old fashioned (and if I am, so be it), but I don't think there's such a thing as "consensual sex" when we're talking about two 17 year olds and a 14 year old. I realize NONE of us know the facts at this time, but I'm very disappointed to read some of the callous statments being made

There is a huge difference between 14 and 17 not to mention the fact that no 14 year old gets double teamed by a 17 and 18 year old without being talked into it. It's an example of senior boys preying on freshmen girls that are naive and trying to be cool without realizing what they are getting themselves into. I do not think this should be a felony charge but it definitely warrants legal action.

That school was wrong on all levels . There's more to come on this situation these boys got THEIR own self in! It was a coercion . There was also another guy who was their "helper" to try & cover up for them . This is what they do . Virgins! Here's a link I feel should be shared . If schools do not rescind their offers he will be a bad representation . If he wasn't stopped now who's to say he wouldn't have done this in college.

All you people who think this is ok are nuts. Use your brains , only a few months difference saved these guys a felony . Who on earth would want a guy like this representing ? Obviously there is something wrong with this situation . I've followed this story from the beginning . Another guy was picked up for questioning due to it being a set up deal. Coerced deal. This is how things roll in that town . I don't care who you are ..popular football player, movie star or your race! It's a law for a reason , to protect our children! Yes 14 is a child !

How many times are you going to post the same link? No where in that article does it say it was a set up or coercion. Honest question. Are you the girl's dad?
