Da'Monte Coxie
Da'Monte Coxie compared signing with LSU to marrying the woman of his dreams Monday morning.
But the ceremony for which he's waited most of his life is coming with some jitters as Wednesday's National Signing Day draws nearer.
The East St. John wide receiver, who committed to the Tigers in July, didn't receive his Letter of Intent on Monday as many of his fellow members of the 2016 recruiting class did, as, sources within the program confirmed, LSU remains cautious because of his academic standing.
"We're getting kind of nervous," Wildcats coach Alden Foster said. "I don't know how it's looking. He has some work to do in the classroom, but I've seen LSU stick with some guys that had some work to do in the classroom. That was when coach (Frank) Wilson was still there, but hopefully that still holds through with the new guys there on the staff."
LSU coaches have discussed the issue at multiple times throughout the past month and appear to remain committed to the Baton Rouge native, whether as an eventual qualifier or as a potential sign-and-place junior college prospect.
For Coxie, the circumstances might seem to somewhat cloud a lifelong dream now finally so close to his grasp.
But the 6-foot-3, 188-pound standout said he remains committed, even if he has to wait or detour through the junior college route.

That would suck. Hopefully he pulls through and does what he has to do.

Well that' fricking bogus. Maybe that's why we're taking 4 receivers.

Yeah his grades have not been mentioned at all until this point that I recall. Hopefully everything works out for him!

Is it possible the staff is getting interest from more last minute top level recruits than they thought and are trying to free a spot? Just saying. This didn't come up until Monday. I'm not saying it's right what they're doing with Coxie, it's just a theory.

Doubt it
There would be smoke if that was the case.

This is possible but this kid has been around the program for a while now,(BR Native and has been attending camps since 8th Grade) I still think we will sign and place him if he does not qualify and see what happens from there.

Ahh did not notice, still very late in the process, normally you would know something sooner.

Come on man, put in the work

The staff let Brandon Martin sign a letter of intent when he had no chance of qualifying last year. Let this kid sign!

It's not really the ESJ pipeline, he was at Tara in Baton Rouge before moving.

Well ESJ has been far better for LSU than TARA, we wouldn't want to cause any conflict or trust with ESJ or Alden Foster for possible future recruits.

How many kids who do sign-and-place actually end up at the school they signed with? Seems like very few.

I'm curious to see if summer school hours would translate to him being qualified? Sometimes that is all it takes for some guys to be there for the start of fall camp.
