I surely hope so. I would want to keep them in the offense and on campus as long as possible to help them maximize their ability and their positive (hopefully) effect on the offense.

I think it depends on whether one of them can beat out Rivers for the backup job this spring. If so, then that guy will not redshirt and the other one will. If neither can beat out Rivers, then they both redshirt unless Mett gets hurt during the season.

I hate that Jennings and Rettig are coming in from the same class. I think they could both be pretty good for us but only one of them is gonna be the starter.

Odds are less than 50/50 on each of them. I wish we had a third.

We have backs that can run. We don't need a running QB.

This is the most asinine statement I keep reading on here. In other words, we have running backs, so we want a statute at QB? We don't want a Johnny Football, Russell Wilson, RGIII, Kaepernick, Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Tim Tebow at QB. We don't want a QB who can make something out of nothing. That is the argument of those who do not like "dual threat" QBs to justify not having one. And it is an insane argument at best.

This. And characterizing AJ with "escapability" skirts around the same position. It suggests AJ is not a duel threat QB, which he is. He ran options in high school well and will do the same in Tiger Stadium. No matter who starts AJ will play a lot in every game because CLM's philosophy compels opposing teams to do two things.

1) Knowing LSU will run some option plays makes them spend limited practice time preparing for that style offense -- reducing prep time for the regular power running and pocket passing game.

2) The threat of the option requires the defense to maintain outside containment. That stops the defense from loading up the middle to stop the power running game, making it more productive.

I'm encouraged by the fact that despite being billed as a "dual threat," even when he is flushed out of the pocket, he only uses his mobility to find opportunities to pass. His first instinct isn't to run. You gotta be encouraged by that.

He moves his head a lot in the pocket with checkdowns. That's a good sign as well.

I like the idea of redshirting Rettig and playing AJ this year, of course if he can beat out Rivers, like someone above was saying.

Love his quick release. He's no Jefferson.

I saw Shep running around a lot in his film. Defintely didn't see him pocket passing a ton, or checking down. When he did pass, it was one read and throw. AJ looks as though he is already light years ahead of Shep as a QB, just being honest.

Last season Rettig had a whooping -58 rushing yards that is Mike Vick type elusiveness (Not a Rettig hater I am just calling Bull sh!t on the comparison of Jennings mobility and Rettigs)
