Look at LSU's recruiting rankings for 2013-2016. Also look at Clemson's for the same period. Clemson made the last two NCP and NCG. Yes Alabama is in our division , however, if we lose only a close one to them we are in the NCP. It's more about coaching once you recruit at that level. Freaking Ole Miss beat Alabama twice and almost beat them a third time. Develope the offensive talent, call plays that put the offense in a position to succeed and play sold defense and we will win with this talent.

Blame this on Allen for trolling us. See what he started.

LSU lost to Florida also and you can't say that they would have won if they beat Bama because let down games like that happen in college football all the time. So, no I don't think they go to the CFP's, but I do think they are on the right track with the changes they have made. They have two of college football's best young bright minds at coordinator positions that will turn this program around fast I think. They just need to start winning the SEC again which obviously means kicking Alabama's asses and then the stuff with recruiting will straighten out fast.

You can't lose this amount of talent to teams you're in direct competition with. The more that leave now sets a precedent for the future. O has a ton of doubters locally and nationally was not viewed as a top hire. We need to have a good season to flip momentum.

Look at South Carolina or Texas too. You're citing the most extreme example of overachieving. There is a very distinct positive correlation between recruiting rankings and performance.

Look at LSU's recruiting ranking since 2005 and then compare to final ranking. Less under achieved with the talent he acquired. I agree that talent dictates where you finish , especially when in direct competition with Alabama. However, if we had only lost to Alabama is 2012-2016 seasons then we likely would have finished in the top 5 and been in the NCG or NCP which is the exact point I made in my OP.

I agree winning will help but we have to change recruiting philosophy.

This place never ceases to amaze. Some MSU insider supposedly says Gay has committed to MSU without any additional information, and 90% of this board writes him off and starts saying he "trolled us." There is a whole lot more smoke about Phillips flipping to LSU, but the narrative is still that "he is sticking with OU, and we're getting nobody."
