Curious to how you reached that conclusion?

McKnight didn't end up being Reggie Bush but he was a good running back.

Stevan Ridley had a better final season than McKnight did, and was a better fit as a power back.

McKnight best season - 1014 rushing yards, 146 receiving yards, 10 TD

Ridley had 1100+ rushing yards and 15 TD.

McKnight was good, but that was a wash at best.

True, but we were full at LB at the time and Chavis told him he would play DE. He was Bama all the way just like Cam Robinson. LSU didnt have a chance, IMO

A few more pulled from 247 history...

Luther Davis - Bama, WIN for LSU with scandal

Michael Mauti - #1 in LA for 2008 went to Penn St, likely no chance for LSU? (I must have been passed out for all of 2008 recruiting, but don't recall following it at all)

Trovon Reed - #1 for LA in 2008 went to Auburn, wash for LSU

Duke Williams - switched to Auburn at the end; would have been "nice to have"

Denzel Devall - Bama - was #3 for LA in 2012??? don't recall that name at all either; assuming no loss for us there

Really? He was a legit LB for Bama before the injury bug hit him. He was solid his freshman year

Les would have taken any of those guys had they want to come to LSU

Greg Robinson, big OL from Thibodaux. Say what you want about McKnight but I would have loved to see him in purple and gold.

USC didn't have the system we had. Not sure how we would've used him, but he would have been solid for us.

Greg Rob is a good one.

But there's no way he's THAT lucky

He can be extraordinarily lucky. (I think about the Flynn TD to beat Aubie in '08 or beating Tennessee after they beat us with too many men on the field in 2010.)

I think good things happen to good people.

Maybe that's the hippy in me though

He lost a good bit, you make this case as if he hasn't lost any big name guys, however, he gained a few out-of-state prospects to make up for the ones he lost in-state

Also, Williams turned out very well, but he wasn't a super highly recruited guy. I don't think he was top five in LA at that time.

Yeah, why stop there? Only because it fits your agenda that people who leave are automatically character problems? GTFO. Plenty have left and been very successful. Tim Williams seems to be doing fine at Bama.

If any of those players called LSU saying they want to be a part of the team at that time you bet whatever foresight as you call it Miles had would've went out the window. Then you'd be making a thread on what could've been for LSU and how blind our staff was.

247 had him as a top 5 player in LA.....
