Homer pick -- Jay Roth of Rummel

He made it to the Dome with less talent than usual. The Raiders won game after game by single digits. Coaching was one of the reasons they pulled those games out. He has sustained the program over many years, making the playoffs pretty much every season.

Coach Cook,
Took Crowley High out of the gutter in the early 80's to powerhouse before he left for USL in '91. Came back my senior year('97 and with no "recruited Germans") and took us to dome in his first year. The very next year goes to Notre Dame and we all know his success there.
The idiot talking about the recruited germans doesn't know wtf he is talking about. There daddies all played there in the '70's. That is where they go to school. They would be there even if Cook wasn't there. He gets the most out of his players and if you spent even a couple days at summer camp like i have you would see how difficult their workouts are. Cook's teams win games in December because of the work done in june, july and august. That is his secret.

By the way they win b/c they recruit and they recruit big Germans.

Another guy in the Baton Rouge area that doesn't get a lot of publicity for the rebuilding jobs he's done is Bob Howell now at Plaquemine. He led Baker to the Dome and turned Zachary into a consistent winner before losing a power struggle with superintendent and getting forced out. Turned Plaquemine into a playoff team last year which was no small feat

Dale Weiner,

as far as the city of Baton Rouge is concerned and playing Baton Rouge teams,
Coach Weiner is in the top two of local BR coaches because of his OVERALL record and NFL talent he coached at Catholic High and earlier at Trafton(now Dunham)-Todd Kinchen. Unfortunately he has not won a state title which I cannot believe at all when people look at how good some of the past CHS teams were.

Another one at the top is Kenny Guillot of PBS...nuff said=2 state titles 3(or 4) state appearances since 2001

Guillot was 2 for 2 in the Dome until last year when they lost to Notre Dame. You're right - class guy and great coach that develops talent and young men

turned the CHSPC program around and give him another 2 years and zachary will compete for a championship.

He is not on the same level as some of the others but deserves to be mentioned

While these are the 2 top coaches currently in LA, the original question is who has done more with less. The consensus is WM and Curtis have too much talent for these 2 to qualify for this thread.

Sorry I failed to read and notice that in the original post.

Is there any HS football coaches from other states you guys have heard of?

Gary Gaines Odessa Permian comes to my mind.

When Shows took over at WM, the program was a laughing stock! He won a state championship in 4 years. Don't knock him for what he built.
Same can be said for his stint at Pineville and he won a state championship there too.

Other than the current Redemptorist, and Parkview coaches Sid edwards could be mentioned. got most of his big wins with private school recruiting. Although that central(Josh Johns) run 2 years ago was impressive. There are not any incredible coaches in the Baton rouge area coaching football. Again those guys all have been able to recruit mainly through private schools.

Bob Howell was a playoff coach for Baker but got Demolished by JT Curtis in the Dome. Won alot of games at zachary but he could never beat big teams like Batrop or Ouachita..... so he's good but nowhere near the best in the state.
