what recruits are committed to the basketball program for next year? ESPN doesn’t even list LSU in their top 40?

Our best player, Kieran Hayward, is from Australia and ESPN doesn't bother to rank foreigners. If he played HS ball in the US he'd be a top 50 recruit. He's a long, athletic scorer who can put the ball in the basket from all levels. Good leaper, finishes well around the rim. He's got great length to play the 2/3 at 6'6 175 with the frame to add on more weight. His select team from Australia has played in tournaments in the US the last two years and Hayward was the best player in every game he played. Averaged over 17 PPG both times. Honestly reminds me of Klay Thompson.

We pulled two players from Lee College in Duop Reath and Branden Jenkins. Reath is a very interesting prospect. He's got tremendous length, standing 6'10 with a 7'2 wingspan but he's got a surprising ability to step away from the basket and hit jumpers, even expanding his range beyond the three point line and hitting with decent consistency. He's an elite shot blocker, averaging 5 blocks a game for Lee. He'll be an immediate impact player. Jenkins is a hard nosed, tough 2/3 man who loves to scrap and play D. He goes hard every time he steps on the court. Branden is only 6'4, but he's got surprisingly long arms, with a 6'8 wingspan. To go along with that, he's incredibly fast and is an explosive jumper. He along with Tone and Brandon will give us 3 players with 40 inch verticals. He isn't much of a threat from deep, but he gets to the basket and finishes well. He'll be a guy we can bring off the bench to give the team a boost on D. He's just an extremely high energy guy. Both have 3 to play 2.

For in state guys we landed Skylar Mays and Wayde Sims. Mays is a true point guard with good size, vision, handles, decision making, and quickness. Mays is already a very solid 6'4 200 pounds with decent length. Mays is a guy you can count on to run your offense and get everyone else in the right position. He's not much of a jump shooter, but he's greatly improved since he left U High to go to Findlay Prep. I expect Mays to surprise people and compete for a starting spot next season. Sims is a stretch 4 who will add another facet to our squad. Sims is a guy who isn't spectacular at any one thing, but he's solid at pretty much everything. Wayde posses a smooth jumper and can hit from both midrange and deep. Tough rebounder who boxes out well. Already has a developed post game. The one big knock on Sims is his size, or lack there of. He's only 6'6 and that will hurt him at times. Luckily in today's CBB it won't hurt him too much since most teams only use one big at a time. The son of former LSU great Wayne Sims, Wayde will bring toughness and effort to a team that badly needs it.

I think this class is comprised of program guys who will gut it out and fight, something I think is sorely missing from our team right now. I think CJJ has had a hard time managing the egos of some of the players on this team, and this class is filled with his type of players. Id expect next years team to resemble a more talented version of the team he had his first year here. If Craig and Antonio develop into the All-SEC players their capable of being, Hayward is the guy we're hoping he can be, and Reath locks down the 5 spot, I wouldn't be surprised if we make the NCAAT.

I hope you are right, but JJ is not a gut it out kind of coach. He was a gut it out kind of player.

I think you're forgetting the first two teams JJ had here. Those teams were massively devoid of talent yet we overachieved both years. Those teams pressed and fought like crazy. Fighting harder then your opponent was how JJ found success at UNT. I think to appease the star players we've had the past few years, CJJ has sacrificed a big part of his coaching identity. Now I'm not admonishing him at all, in fact I think it shows his limitations as a coach.

In order to run a press like WVU does you have to have experienced, high energy players. The only high energy guys we have are Tone and Patterson. Hornsby too but he just isn't quick enough on D. Ben turns it on at times and Tim only gets up for UK and UGA. We don't have the guys who are willing to give the effort to press. That's partly on CJJ but I can't fault him for taking highly rated guys, even if they might not have the personality to run what we've run in the past.

Looks to be a very underwhelming class. This is good now my expectations won't be high and then get shattered. This season has seriously knocked a year off my life.

This has been a national embarrassment, mainly for Johnny Jones. The question that remains, will Jones be able to recruit another high profile player again?

Duop Reath shots 40% from deep. Odo can't touch Duop.
