Tonight I went to the EAst Ascension/Byrd game to check out my alma mater in their playoff game. There were two very impressive players in the game. The big guy for EA is a 6'6" sophomore. He's about 230 already. The big guy probably had 20 points, 15 boards, and 5-6 blocked shots. He also hit a few open 15 footers. Pretty impressive for such a young big. Couple bad things though.... He plays pretty soft. He needs to get a mean streak in him. His basketball IQ needs to really improve also.

The other player was from Byrd. #23, not sure of his name or grade, but he looked to be a pretty young guy. Kid was about 6'4" with a baby face. Needs to put on some weight, but man, the kid was an athlete. He had two amazing dunks, the latter one was in a poor kids grill. He had to put up over thirty. If he can add 3-4" before college you've got a hell of a prospect. He played down low monstly, but moved very well with the ball in his hands and got to the basket with ease. Really played above the rim all night. Smooth touch at the line as well. Was perfect from the line all night. Does anyone have any info on this guys age or if he has a chance to play college ball?

Jicardo (sp) is the big from EA. he is young and like you said is kind of soft. But he has two years to mature. I don't think he is a major prospect right now but who knows how he'll develop.

Does Louisiana have the shot clock in HS basketball yet? Some of the schools would take a lead and hold the ball for a solid minute or two. I decided I was not watching HS basketball until this was fixed.

I went to the Episcopal/Lakeview game tonight. They had multiple LSU coaches and a Arizona coach there looking at Bridgewater.

Cleveland Thomas (Scotlandville) asked for his release from Scholarship from ULL, most likely JJ is de-committing as well. Someone told me Bama looked at Pancake (Cleveland Thomas) but neither are SEC quality.

Pretty good chance TJ was checking out the big kids, mainly Damian Jones (#24). Kid had somewhere in the ballpark of 25-17-7 against Rico earlier in the year with TJ and an asst in the building.

TJ is def looking at their bigs. Thomas is good but I'm not sure he's SEC good.

How is their senior big man, Zarif Basil? Rivals says he is 6-9, 270.

I haven't heard as much about him, as I have their juniors.

Zarif Basil has been recruited hard by Southeastern and a few other schools of that level, he's a low to mid major, I think a reshirt would help him out him If I could. Big wide kid that can bang and take up space. He plays below the rim and needs to go through a strengh and conditioning program, but he's light on his feet on pick and rolls.

Right now I'd take both Jones and Sams over Zarif. I don't see him being that good. He hasn't gotten much better and lacks athleticism like chuckie says.

Zarif Basil

He's big but not very strong or athletic..... With the right strenth and conditioning at the next level, he could be a decent big man at a lower tier mid major...... He does have decent touch for a big guy.....

So, is it Damian Jones or Damian James? I have seen it both ways.
