He doesn't appear to be on too many national lists, and if Jones gets the Dante Exum kid he might be done recruiting guards, but Touchet has the look of a kid you want on your team.

He's the 4A state MVP and the Gatorade Mr. Basketball this year as a junior. He led his team to the state title this year. That included hanging 35 on St. Aug in the playoffs.

He's 6-2 and 180 pounds, has a 40-inch vertical leap, and a 4.0 GPA. The numbers were pretty impressive for a 4A player as well - 20.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game, shooting 57 percent from the field, 41 percent from 3-point range and 83 percent from the free throw line.

On paper this guy looks like a kid LSU would regret not getting. But I haven't seen him play, so I'm willing to hear reasons why we don't want him or why we're not recruiting him - or if we are recruiting him and he doesn't want to come, or if he's about to commit to us. I can't find anything one way or the other.

Maybe if bigger fish can't be landed. Only 3 spots probably for that class and we are after some serious talent

Eta: maybe he will be willing to walk on

He will get other offers. If you saw him play against St. Aug you know he is good.

TOPS will pay for his school. Why isn't that good enough?

Elleshoe, we ought to have four - Coleman, Courtney and Stringer are seniors, and unless O'Bryant goes out this year (and if he does I don't know that we'll have a guy to replace him) he'd have to be a fourth.

But I would think if you could get a 20 ppg guy who was a Mr. Basketball as a junior as a preferred walkon you'd be doing pretty well. That might be too much to hope for.

My question is, if this guy isn't a big fish...how come? Seems like there are a lot of kids like this playing for those mid-major schools who made the Sweet 16 while Kentucky and their one-and-done ballhogs sit home.

Because there's room and board + food expenses? More than double tuition. This attitude that some fans towards in-state guys walking-on is funny to me.

No end of story. Good kid but he would have to play the 1 and he doesn't handle it well enough to play that position at the next level for a big d1 program. Mid major would be perfect for him.

Says Mr. Touchet who started the other thread. He shot the ball 30 fricking times and had 22 free throws. Shooting percentage was horrible against a team with length. That's what he will see at a big d1.

Once again, I'm a friend of his brother. Not Touchet.
St. Aug was playing up tight on him, which prompted him to drive all game which resulted in 22 free throws. He was able to finish around the rim with three guys between 6'6"-6'9". His consistency from the three point line is evident by the 42% he shot. I'm told he faced numerous box and 1s and double teams throughout the year. Also, don't label him as a shooter although it's one of his best strengths, he brings many other d1 capabilities to the floor.

That's the expectations for baseball players though. No one gets a full scholarship.

Basketball is different. I don't think you can split scholarships up, but I'm sure he'd qualify for more academic money.

I guess... but like george said, the kid's family can almost definitely swing it if he wants to be a Tiger bad enough. You and I both know we have much bigger recruits on the radar before we'd make it down to Touchet.

eta: I want to stress that I'm not saying he can't play but the class in 2014 could be something really special and I'm just not sure he'd fit in if we get the guys we're really after
