his 24/7 page

he's the number 3 corner, number 18 overall, committed to bama and didn't seem to have us as a finalist. is there any particular story as to why? he only lives 4 hours from Tiger Stadium, compared to 9 from bama, he feels like a kid we should have an edge on.

I think there's a point where we stop working on DBs for this class. I can see them talking with Mark Fields seeing as he could be a sure thing, and Iman Marshall with his OV and all, but I don't see them breaking ground on any guys like Kendall Sheffield when we only have 1 DL/LB.

not sure in this particular circumstance but Bama has a lot of boots on the ground and 4x the recruiting budget of LSU.

I was going to ask the same question in the other tread about our targets.

I think we were recruiting him heavily, but that was over 6 months ago as I remember reading about him on the RB

I'd rather Donte Jackson anyway, and we're sitting in a good position for him.

i don't think it is a huge priority with Tolliver signed, and the Quality of DBs in next years LA class.

I honestly think we have a better shot and Iman Marshall than Sheffield.

No...I forget the actual #s but they spend about $400-500k more...we're in the bottom half of the sec though which is ridiculous

Sheffield is a lot like Tony Brown part 2

Lots and lots of athletic ability/speed but is very much an unfinished product (or raw) in terms of a cover corner.

If you saw Tony Brown play this year, it was easy to tell his talent level is high and has the ability to stick with anyone...but had a hard time figuring out how to cover someone and got picked on quite a bit.

So like Tony Brown, he could be great if he learns how to play corner, or he could just end up still being a great athlete and nothing more.

It's not ridiculous, think about, we get at least half our class every year from in the state, you don't have to spend much money to travel if you're getting a bunch of players from close by.

A team like Alabama has to go a lot further, on average (travel wise) to get players.

Think about how many players we get from the Lake area alone, those are car ride away people, not hopping on a private jet and flying an hour or two somewhere. Big difference in cost.

Well, it just depends if that's all travel cost. If that's the case, I agree with you. If not, I absolutely don't.

It's not ALL travel cost, but you better bet that's a primary bulk of it. I'd love to see these guys corporate AMEX cards (the Financial Analyst in me) from trips and the bill for the private jet. My guess is the flying alone is what a huge bulk of the recruiting cost.

I would imagine hosting recruits is a much smaller part of the budget (hotel, going out to eat) than the just travel part of recruiting.

IIRC, Tennessee was one of those SEC programs with a huge recruiting budget - because they have to travel really far for many of their kids. If you look at recruiting budgets, the teams that go further tend to have bigger budgets.
