That to me is one of the keys to success. It's not about finishing in the top 5 this year but each and every year. A little bit of greed never hurt anyone.

Exactly. That's how dynasties have been born. Had they had rankings back in the 90s (well, maybe they did, but I was young so IDK), teams like Nebraska, FSU, Miami, and UF would have been yearly top 5 for most of the decade.

USC in the early 2000s, UF (again) in the mid 2000s and Bama in the early 2010s, are recent examples of this. LSU, FSU (again), and OSU are now starting to do the same thing.

LSU
2014 - 2
2015 - 5
2016 - likely 1

It's a never fail strategy. Of course you have to have the right staff in place, but if you are racking up the recruits like this, I'm pretty sure you already do.

Also on another note, LSU needs to put the dagger in Bama this year. They have been flailing the last couple of years (consecutive postseason losses in big games), and now their recruiting class is off to an incredibly slow start. I like how another guy on the rant put it, The Purple and Gold Era.

No one can say consecutive top-5 (or higher) classes will always lead to championships, much less dynasties.

But you are spot on... the trend is undeniable. I'll take 3 consecutive #3 classes over 1 stand-alone #1 class any day. It will be a more solid team on the field in 3yrs with less weaknesses that can be exploited by equally or even slightly less talented teams.

That being said, I think getting that 1 big "franchise player" every year is huge too. That playmaker that can single-handledly turn a game or two around almost by himself. It's the turbo for the program. Problem is, might not know you have him till 2 years later. Right now can point to Adams & Founette. Hopefully can add Tolliver or Dupre to that list soon. Would be nice to be able to point to a QB for that list too, but that's rare for LSU historically.

I was getting ahead of myself there, but when teams have had a run of just supreme excellence (11-13 win seasons yearly), it's because they kill it in recruiting yearly and I don't just mean really good, I mean crushing it in recruiting.

I'm not going to lie, I believe this team (coaching staff included) is good enough for multiple playoff berths in the next 4 years.
