Although he received major attention from pro scouts at the national games, Williams, who is ranked in the Top 5 of most national high school baseball recruiting lists for 2013, said he still plans to honor his verbal commitment to LSU, even though there is a good chance he could hear his name called in the early rounds of the Major League Baseball draft next year. He said he will discuss his future plans with his family when that time comes, but as for now, he's planning to join the Tigers. "I want to get an education," Williams said. "I'm not going to play baseball forever. Every baseball player needs something to fall back on. They have pro players who have millions of dollars, and they are set for life. I'm not there yet, so I have to start planning ahead."

I hope this still holds true. Probably a pipe dream, but looks like there's more of a shot than I had previously thought.

I wonder if 6'2" 210 is big enough to silence the "when are we getting a big 1B" talk?

believe there was an article about a big pitcher a while back

That may have been David Pallodino a 6'9" pitcher from Howard Community College

Add Connor Hale from College of South Florida. Might be wrong on the college name. Infielder. That makes 20 but a couple of the may show in Jan.

Thought this deserved a bump now that we're in baseball season.

Kade Scivicque at Southwest Mississippi C.C. is raking so far this season

10 for 25 (.400), 2 2B, 1 HR, 12 RBI, 1 K

There is also a freshman (Tyler Chapman - OF) at LSU-Eunice with 6 doubles and 4 home runs in 14 games and is hitting .350. LSU-E as usual has 1 guy who has stolen 18 bases and another who has stolen 15 bases in 14 games each.

Kid with all the steals is Adam Angelle he's signed with UL.

From a March 15th Baseball America blog about sleepers:

quote:

Jake Fraley, of, Red Lion (Del.) Christian Academy
Fraley has a tightly-wound build at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds. He's a solid-average runner and gets good jumps in center field. Fraley also shows at least average arm strength. He has a nice, compact swing from the left side of the plate with some sneaky power because of his quick hands and strong core. Fraley is committed to Louisiana State.

Blurb about Jarrett DeHart. May be tough to get him on campus. He is related to Brett Laxton, though.

Stallings was throwing around 93 when LSU went to look at him. Hurt his arm and last I heard is going to have Timmy John surgery. He is pretty good for not having good coaching his first three years at Grant. They have a good coach this year but he is having surgery. Just a little tidbit , his great uncle is the mens head basketball coach at Vandy and his cousin was starting catcher at North Carolina that was drafted.

How many roster spots will be opening up after this season?

Sr: Katz, Rhymes, Berry, Yocom, Edward, Bourgeois, Bonvillian, Cotton.

Jr. that are likely to leave: Jones, Ross, Ibarra, McMullen, Eades, Lamarche

(I included McMullen because he might be a Johnny Dishon case where Mainieri tells him he would be better off in the minors than being the a 4th OF at LSU. I can see Lamarche doing the same thing if he isn't used outside of blow outs. Some team will take him on his velo alone. As for Ibarra, I'm not sure what his mindset is. Did he come to LSU as a one year bridge to the draft? His size may hurt his stock.)

I don't think any of our sophomores are draft eligible.

Thanks for the info parman. I wonder if they will still sign him or let him go to juco to see how he recovers.

Project, I watched some of the PG National games last Summer and I would say Fraley is a similar player to Stevenson, but a little more talented. DeHart has a sweet swing and is more of a power threat. I may have overlooked these two but I don't think BA had them in their recent top 100 HS list. Ofcourse it doesn't mean we'll land them, but at least we have a chance.

If I remember correctly Williams (20ish) and Longhi (60ish) were the only two on the list. Robertson was mentioned with those just outside the list.

Glenn is eligible. Agree on the list, not sure about Ibarra's situation. He didn't seem to be that highly regarded out of juco, but he will at least get a late look.

Forgot about him, he would have to turn in some masterful (like AMAZING) performances this year to leave though. No chance he leaves early IMO.

I think Robertson is about as much a lock to go to college as there is. He won't be wooed by money and seems to genuinely want to be at LSU.
