After X amount of downvotes, or are they just cosmetic?

How do we prevent trolls from following people around and downvoting (like they will do to this post)?

What about users with multiple accounts - those with 10 or so alters (they exist) downvoting everything?

Will lurkers be able to up/down vote posts?

There's a stickied thread on the OT where chicken was answering all these questions.

Good points. it seems all the reasons chicken gave in the stickied thread are for the useability of the up votes. it there a purpose of the downvote other than to troll? will there be some kind of up/down ratio that determines the best replies?

I see that, but it's pretty vague.

Is it strictly to just determine the trending topics?

I'm not sure if you noticed, but everyone is just downvoting everything to be a dickbag.

Also, the arrows are in the header for the OP and in the footer for the replies. It would be less confusing if they were the same so people don't accidentally vote for the wrong post.

And the arrows need a transparent background for the posts with the blue background.

Also, if the arrow could be filled in after you've voted, that would be nice.

eta: it's just for the ones that's you've already voted it swaps to a square with non-transparent background.

Also, with this new addition, will up/down votes reflect a users "reputation?"

Maybe some sort of respect meter based on how many up or down votes you get. Would that encourage users to make better posts? Probably not. Maybe an automatic 3 day ban when the meter hit the max number of downvotes, then resets and the user is reinstated.

I really hope this site doesn't implement a rep system.

IKR? I'm sure I like upvotes because it seems like a popularity contest.

There's so much potential, but part of TD's charm is its simplicity and minimalist design.

I hate reddit because it's so busy with the indents and up/down votes.

BB.com has a rep feature that works well but it's less discussion and more informational than TD is.

I have faith in Chicken and I love him, but my anxiety is killing me right now.

Can you tell who voted up/down so trolls can be identified?

What about this thread on the OT. 0 up votes and 35 and counting down votes. Will it disappear?

That one should be RA'd because it's a dead post.

But ones like THIS need to be auto-anchored after a certain number of downvotes. Plus, chicken said not to use the votes for polls and turtleneckrevolution is doing that here.
