Is the whole "detox" gut health thing a hoax or legit?

Obviously I know the pyramid schemes like It Works, Plexa, etc are all just glorified laxatives when it comes to detoxes

I follow Steve Weatherford a good bit on social media and he just did a 30 day "metabolic reset" and lost 20lbs or so, and he was sub 10% BF when he started. He documented the dexa scans and everything

He said the first 5-6 lbs or so was due to the "sludge" in his intenstines from eating like shite, etc. I've always thought this was bullshite and still lean that way, but to what extent is there a truth to it?

Mostly bullshite. There are legitimate toxins, but your body will flush them out every day.

Most of the 'detox' stuff is just a diuretic, be it a pill or some sort of diet.

Nothing crazy really. Just an extremely strict exercise and diet regiment for 30 days. Nothing but "clean" foods and this green drink he mixes himself and calls hulk juice. A shite ton of pills everyday

I follow him on snap so I flipped thru each day. It obviously worked for him but he's acting as if he created some super program

The only real "detox" your body needs is your liver, kidneys, lymphatic system, etc.

The key is putting things in your body that make their jobs less strenuous. It's pretty much an "you are what you eat" philosophy. If you're putting shite in your body, it's not going to run as well.

Gut Health is real, however, all you need is sauerkraut or kimchee to get it optimal. All the probiotic pills in the world with the “billions” of strains of good bacteria pale in comparison to some good ole brined Kraut or Kimchee. I brine my own and it is easy.
Detox is just a good way to get your shite in a pile if you have been boozing and eating garbage for a while. I do not put much stock in a detox if you are lean and eating well. I would rather utilize fasting for the GH boost and insulin sensitivity. DEXA scans are great 2 to three times a year for Bodyfat and Bone Density.

What's your recipe?

My wife bought a Nature's Valley probiotic at the behest of her doctor. It only has 100 million lactobacillus acidophilus. I've been taking them once a day for over a week now and have never felt better. Seriously.

I've always had some gut issues and have been struggling off and on for the past year with depression. While part of me says "placebo effect," I didn't take them to cure my gut issues and definitely not for depression. I started taking them because my wife is notorious for not taking medicine when prescribed, so I figured it was easy for me to pop one pill each evening to help remind her to take hers.

If this is only 100 million of one strain, then I'd like to find out what it's like to eat billions of other strains from a natural source like a specific food.

I put a ton of jalapeños on my nachos at the game on Saturday. Got a great gut detox Sunday morning.

Honestly, I think most detox remedies are all bunk. Eat a healthy diet with lots of fiber, take probiotics or eat fermented foods, and your gut health will be great.

i actually did steve's 30 day program after i was diagnosed with "leaky gut" syndrome and i searched around for different ways to try to heal my gut as best i could. i was kind of skeptical at first but i ended up losing 18 lbs. my stomach used to stick out very far from all the inflammation and it went down significantly after the program. after dealing with this issue and having to go to the doctor and eliminate certain foods, etc i can definitely attest that gut health is real and the different aspects of his program really helped me get back on track.

You have a liver and kidneys. They detox you. Constantly and everyday.

Maybe this was why he saw results and not some voodoo "hulk drinks" and handfuls of pills.

Most likely

I doubt that he had "6 lbs of sludge" in his body whatever the hell that even means

That's one of the oldest scams in the "detox" business. One of the products is an industrial type metamucil that expands in your colon to create the "6 lbs. of sludge.

Have you ever put a tablespoon of metamucil in a glass, stirred it up and just let it sit?

Hoax. I just watched Adam Ruins Everything on this subject yesterday.

Your body’s organs remove the toxins. The stuff you hear and see at spas are bullshite.

This is BS, as are all "detox" products and programs.

Direct your focus to microbiome, insulin/metabolism, and inflammasomes (and the bodies our own bodies create to suppress them). All of this is backed by science and not psuedo scientific marketing.

Any time I hear the term "detox," unless it's about drugs and alcohol, I just tune out.

Eta: I just read entire thread and it sounds as though we're all pretty much in agreement on this one!
