Gonna start this. Been doing mixed grip and saw omarisuf point out that when you go up, you tend to lean to a side and create torsion on spine. Alan thrall said he had an overdeveloped side because of the mixed grip.

How long does it hurt?

Just like anything else, it will go away the more you use it. Just like how some ppl complain about a bar on their back for squats.

Glad to see you going away from a switch grip, at your age and strength levels it's a torn bicep waiting to happen.

I use a mixed grip and have never had problems nor seen any signs of major muscle imbalances. We're you noticing those?

Correct, lots of torn biceps from mixed grip out there.

It's just my opinion, but if my grip is a limiting factor, then I'm not moving the weight up. Standard grip only here.

But, I'm at the point where my goal is to maintain strength into my 40's. Not looking to get over 400lbs anymore.

I wasn't but I do get knots on the side of my weak hand grip. Could just be coincidence though.

No mixed grip for me either. Not worth the risk.

Nothing wrong with using straps or hooks though. I'll use them on the heavy sets. No sense in stopping my progress over grip strength.

Yeah, I'll probably just train my hook grip but use straps on heavy sets until I do a competition or something.

right now on the RFL diet (fasting), I'm only doing 405 3x5. Bent over rows at 225 2x10.

I've never done a competition but want to one day.

That's still good numbers and definitely wouldn't use mixed at that weight.

Neither have I, would be fun.

One of the biggest bumps in strength was when I switched to double overhand. If you have a good foundation straps would be fine.

been there, done that. Don't recommend.

Though I did it playing rugby, not lifting. But I still do alternating grip, and my supinated arm is the bicep that didn't tear, so I probably should work on this hook thing.

I used a thumb sleeve when I first started doing the hook; It helped a lot

Sorry for the stupid questions, but...

What lifts are y'all talking about using mixed grip, and I'm assuming you're talking one hand over and the other under? I only ask, b/c I use it for DL.

Would you incorporate a hook grip for anything other that say...cleans and snatches?

And yes, I think the thumb sleeves or tape helped a lot when implementing a hook grip.

I use it for snatch not for clean

I use it on both, with the snatch wearing the thumb out a bit more than the clean, at least for me.

I had surgery on my right thumb and holding a hook grip for a bunch of touch and goes sucks.
