Warming up
Posted by Tigah Jr on 5/27/17 at 12:34 pm00
What is your normal warm up routine before teeing off? I start off with a 9 iron or pitching wedge hitting pitch shots concentrating on good contact. I roll into longer irons, usually a 7. Then hit some tee shots with my driver and 3 wood. I keep it to about 20-30 minutes. If I go much longer I'll swing myself out.

Stretch. Sand wedges, not really worrying too much about distance control, just contact and loosening up. Then 9 irons to get some full swings in. A few 7 irons to get the mid iron in. Probably 4-8 4 irons to get swings with a long iron. A couple 3 woods off the deck then 2 or 3 off a tee. Finally, the big stick. .
This may sound like a lot, but I don't hit many balls with each club. Probably takes between 20-30 minutes hitting around 50 balls, but 10-15 of those are warm up swings with a wedge.

If I'm just going to play a quick round after work or something I'll hit the following:
- 3 half 9i
- 5 full 9i
- 3 Drivers
Maybe roll a few 5 footers if the practice green is on the way to 1st tee
A tournament or some other round:
- 10 to 15 pitch shots in the chipping area
- 5 bunker shots
- 10 to 15 chips
- 3 half 9i
- 5 full 9i
- 5 full 7i
- 3 full 5i
- 3 full 3i
- 8 Drivers
- 3 3w
- 12 wedges of varying shot style
- 20 minutes putting
- 2 Drivers
- 3 half 9i

Hit 50 yard wedges, move up to 100. Then 8 irons, 5 irons, Drivers. No more than 30 balls. Any more than that then it's practice.

I just keep hitting shots on the first tee until I get one I like.

I know a guy that turns the AC off and rolls down the windows about 5 miles from the course...part of his warm up routine.
For me, chipping, putting some punch shots and a couple of full swings - most time spent on putting green.
