Walking vs. Riding
Posted by CoachChappy on 6/7/17 at 9:52 am11
Does anybody else find they play much better when walking?
I find myself concentrating much better on each shot, because I don't want to have to go shag errant shots. Also, I seem to focus on the next shot as I approach the ball instead of drinking and screwing around.
Thoughts? Walking > riding
ETA: I use a push cart when I walk

Haven't walked in years. Cooler is too heavy.

I like to walk if it's carts on path only and it's not too hot outside. I feel like my play doesn't change all that much though

We had a tee time at Santa Rosa club a couple weeks ago. It had been raining some, but not anything abnormal for Florida. Got there and they said no carts allowed. I said you mean cart path only. No sir, no carts on the course. We won't leave the concrete, I promise. No can do sir. I'll pay you more money, the heat index is 207. Sorry sir, it's walk or nothing. So we did. First time I have walked since high school golf. It sucked. Spilled my Bloody on my shirt on hole 2. Had the chafe by hole 7. Actually played pretty well but quit at the turn +1. Golf without a cart aint what I'm after.

I walk 9/10 times. Could be though that there is virtually no humidity here. I would probably ride if I still lived in LA

I love walking, and I love playing alone. I don't think it impacts my score, though.

I enjoy walking with my push cart. I don't do it as often as I would like but it makes the round more enjoyable to me.

I love walking when courses are designed correctly. Most courses have too much distance between holes to make walking enjoyable.

The only course I'll walk around here is Audubon.
Took a trip to the Monterey Peninsula in 2015, played at Spyglass, Poppy Hills, and Spanish Bay. Walked all three rounds with a caddie, enjoyed the crap out of it. Played really well, and the scenery was unbelievable.

I prefer walking when it's not absurdly hot

Great point, the new City Park isn't bad and neither is TPC (besides going from 9 to 10), but courses like Oak Harbor, Lakewood, Money Hill, etc. all have some hikes between holes. That's the killer, if you're playing partners are riding you feel like an idiot as they zoom by, then they have to wait for you on the tee box

Walking is much better.
I'm gonna try and commit to walking much more.
Always play better when I walk.
Game is supposed to be played walking.

I walk at the muni course I play some weekday afternoons. It's nice and refreshing. I don't walk on weekends since most courses are pretty crowded and don't want to be 'that guy'.
Most courses here in Houston won't allow walkers on weekends. I actually play faster walking than the average weekend hacker driving a cart but oh well.

Webb is a walking course
Bluffs or the like, I could not imagine walking
When we played at whistling straits, the old caddy we had carried both of our bags up and down those rolling hills. I can't imagine doing that

Walking is real golf.

I enjoy walking when it's not too hot. It lets me get exercise without having to go run or do something I dread. I'll take the $20 savings every time too.
It prolly helps my game just bc I don't drink as much while playing.

One reason I was really upset about Sherwood closing is because I really enjoyed walking that course. I walk Denham Springs Country Club most of the time during the week when I play now. It's like $17.

I'm 3-4 shots better when I walk.
Can't get as drunk, if at all, and I have a lot of time to think about my shots.
