The LSU thread made me think of this topic. Thought it could use its own thread.

I like playing alone and do so fairly often on midweek afternoons. The courses I play are rarely busy at these times but I'll occasionally run into a 3some or 4some. I'm not playing speed golf and I'm typically hitting multiple balls. This is my practice time so I'm not looking to join up. I have ZERO problem if the group ahead doesn't let me through, but yes I would rather them do so so I'm not spending an extra hour on the course.

On the flip side, when I'm in a group, we always try to let the single our 2some through even if there may be a couple of groups ahead of us especially on the front. Our thought is that it may take a few holes, but that single won't have a chance to get through anyone unless they get through us first and we're happy to oblige. We just aren't in that much of a hurry playing as a 4some.

I moved to Houston about 3 years ago and don't have any friends here that play golf so I play as a single all the time. Typically if I go to one of the muni courses (Sharpstown) after work I can play a round solo and never really run into any big groups and it's a good course to practice on.

I always pair up wherever I play on the weekend because courses are more crowded. I just let my personality blend with whoever I get paired up with and it's almost always a good experience. I typically prefer to play with others out there than solo amyways.

It would be good to find a regular group in Houston to play with. Any baws looking for a 4th????

As a head golf professional at a very big club in Arizona I deal with this on a daily basis. I have no issue with singles going out so long as they realize that they will more than likely be waiting all day.

My biggest pet peeve (with the exception of golf now pre paid times) is people who show up on a busy day and pitch a fit when they are paired with a group. I do not allow singles on busy mornings and many golfers cannot comprehend this

What area do you live? I am always looking for a game. I usually have a Saturday morning group that plays in or around Sugar Land.

That's fair. If I'm a single I try to book earliest possible tee time to get ahead of the groups and normally don't have any problems

Always let a single play through if it's open ahead. If the whole course is backed up, I ask if they want to join my group. If they refuse, they can wait. I expect the same when I play as a single, if I have to wait I'll just play an extra ball.

Gotta ask though, AZ, what's the pet peeve with Golf Now?

I live downtown so everything is pretty much the same distance. I'd love to pair up or join anytime. Planning on getting out and playing somewhere Sunday.

Always let them play through. I know you know this but when playing through be efficient. Get to the tee box on a hop. Don't putt it out etc. It doesn't do any good if the transition isn't smooth...can screw everything up behind you.

That should be a given for most singles. I don't pull the flag even.

That gets me every time...lol. I'll be having a great round going, run into a 4some that waves me thru, get in a big hurry, shank my tee shot in the woods, top my second shot about 30 yards, etc. Pick my ball up and quickly get out of their way. I get to the next tee box and im breathing like I just ran a 10K.

That's why when a group won't let me thru I look at it as an unanswered prayer!

I always let single play though if its open. but playing as a single I dont mind waiting behind groups because I'll start playing a few balls.

I avoid Saturday mornings if I'm playing alone.

When I let anyone play through I insist that they take their time

I know what it's like to rush through someone and I don't want them to feel rushed when playing through.

I always let them play through if they're faster, but if you're doing this

typically hitting multiple balls
you probably aren't catching me.

If it's a weekday with an open course I'll let a single play through. On a busy weekend I'll let singles rot behind out foursome.

I play as a single a lot, mostly mid to late afternoons and never if the course is crowded. I agree with whoever said singles should be paired up when crowded. My favorite time is during the fall on a Saturday afternoon. Course is always vacant due to football.

As for playing thru, unless I have a group miraculously pushing me along, I'll lag back behind a foursome in front just because I don't really enjoy playing thru. No matter what anyone says, you always feel like you should hurry thru and it usually wastes at least one hole. If you are in a hurry, you probably should wait for another time to play.

I'm never trying to push on a 4, but If I'm playing 2/3 balls and a couple extra putts and am still on them, I'd rather them let me thru. If they don't, I'm not mad. And obviously, this is on uncrowded days/hours. When I play through, I don't rush, but there's pressure. Which I actually don't mind since it's a good chance to see how you play with that feeling. But like I said before, I don't putt out or even remove the flag. No reason to take that extra time in that situation.

I play at my club as a single from time to time, but I literally know 95% of the people on the course at any given time because its such a member driven course. So I join up or play through. Our course is a tight rectangle (9 hole) and you can see every hole from the clubhouse. It's nothing for people to skip around groups there and come back later to finish up a hole or two. Our course is obviously the exception for that type of thing.

I play by myself alot. I am in Houston and I am a PDP member at a course by my house. It's crazy cheap to play twilight so I play once a week in the afternoon after work. Sometimes twice a week outside of the weekends. I treat those rounds like practice working on stuff you can't really do on the range.

Weekend mornings are for groups so unless I play with buddies, I either don't play or just go get placed with a pair or threesome.
