I've heard of this course, but don't know much about it. Is it worth the 1.5 hour drive from Lafayette to play? Does anybody have any info on it? Anybody want to go play?

Solid course. Like the layout. I found the greens fairly challenging. Played the lga four ball there a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised . You will enjoy it.

I am always pleasantly surprised at the condition of the Links considering it's a muni and all.

I played Oakwing twice a week for 10 years before I moved to Shreveport. It can be a challenge if you're playing from the tips. Played it a week ago and the greens were in near perfect condition. Overall, it's a solid course. GPS on the carts is nice.
Links on the Bayou is also pretty good.

Oakwing is a good track. As many on here have said the greens are in great condition. I drove up last week and played Links and it is excellent right now.

The benefit of Oakwing over Links is that Oakwing has trees that offer some shade... Links does not. Also, as someone mentioned, Oakwing has GPS in the carts that give you a basic idea of the distances. You can even touch hazards and it will tell you distance to carry.

Lastly, Oakwing has Robbie Gueringer as their teaching pro... one of the best guys you will ever meet on a golf course.

I say play both of them if you can.

Lived in Alec 10 yrs, played both oak wing and links, both really nice layouts, Links is wide open, no trees so you have to consider the wind, Oak wing is somewhat more tree covered on the front side, Back side is more exposed. When I lived there Links was Always the better conditioned of the 2 And the greens were always great

Agreed. He is a true treasure. Doesn't matter if you are a tour guy or a weekend hacker he is going to treat you the same way.

Did not mean to imply that

I used to get sent to Tic-toc for 1/2 lb of boiled ham. Been dealing with him since i was 5 or so.

Thanks for the heads up. In 2 weeks I will be fully cleared to play golf again, and I think I'll make a weekend trip up and play Oakwing and links.

Better call and check the schedule of events. It's tournament season for both Links and Oakwing. Just a heads up so you don't waste a trip.
