The annual member guest trny is coming up and was invited to play. I'm a non member. My problem is that there is a great chance of rain this weekend and don't want to spend 300 to play a one day trny. I've played in this trny before and they have done this because of rain on Sunday. Should I ask the pro for my money back if it doesn't get in both days? What have y'all experienced in trny rainouts and what other options should they come up with besides canceling it to the next weekend, which they won't.

i have seen and heard of this happening. But i have also heard of the Member splitting the entry in case this happens. It is easier for the member to get a credit to his account instead of you getting your money back.

I just suck it up and not bitch about it. It costs money and a lot of effort to put one of those things on. You shouldn't worry about a $50 refund.

ETA: I thought that the member usually pays in these things, anyway?

You can ask. If they actually have the tournament in any capacity, especially if the events like dinners/awards parties, etc, proceed as scheduled; I doubt you'll get any money back.

If the tourney is only 1 day but the payouts, tee gifts, dinners all stay in place, I'd consider asking for a "rain check" next time you play out there with your member friend. But I probably wouldn't push it.

No I pay my own way. Have played in some the member paid and I still think it sucked. Give me half my money back and all is good.

In my opinion...being invited to play in a member guest is a privilege. I wouldn't look at it as "how much value" will I get out of spending $300. I'm happy to get invited and also never expect or allow the other person to pay my entry fee.

I also wouldn't ask for any sort of refund or rain check if a round gets washed out. At $600 a team, im sure you will be at a nice club and enjoy the time that you're there.....and hopefully get an invite back the following year.

I agree 110%, I've always split the entry fee no matter what the cost, they are always fun tournaments and 9 times out of 10 the food/drinks alone make up for the entry fee, the golf and etc is just a bonus, especially at a nice course.

No matter how long the tournament you have the same chance to get your return on investment. Just play well on day 1 and clean house and then collect and chill on Sunday.

As a head pro at a major club in Arizona where the member guest is 1200 per team, unless it's a total wash out with no golf you probably aren't gonna get anything back. The golf is the cheapest part of that entry fee. Most goes to F&B and the remainder to gifts

This isn't the Country Club La. Yes they'll have some beverages and yes you get a nice meal at the Calcutta. And yes one round of golf, but imo the value of this is maybe 100 bucks tops. Sure the club members don't mind because it's helping their club monetarily, but non members are getting screwed. A couple of free rounds would be nice, hell a sleeve of balls would go a long way in pacifying the deal. Nope, sorry to y'all whose score didn't fall in the top three in your flight. See you next year. WTF

If you feel that way then decline the invite and let the member invite someone who would appreciate it.

My Club doesn't make a dime off of the Member-Guest. They put every last penny back into the tournament.

What's the difference between playing in a trny or playing with friends on a weekend on another course and you don't get your round in because of rain. I guess you don't ask for a rain check? I know, OT ballers.

Correct. Most golf clubs make zero money on their member/guest

Everything goes towards gifts and F&B and prizes

We know b/c that would only cover a quarter of the cost of their member/guest

And people wonder why golf courses struggle in Louisiana. Golfers are so damn cheap and complain about everything.

It hasn't even rained yet. Plus, if it did rain and you went to a GM and politely and privately asked for a comp round to make up for it he'd give you one.

No reason to get your underwear in a wad on the internet. Just act like a reasonable adult and handle the situation.

The difference is on any given weekend you don't get a tee gift and dinner at the post round calcutta when you pay your green fee. If you are that worried about a shortened tournament then tuck your tail between your legs and don't play. If you truly want to play and compete then do it. Pretty simple.
