Tried to play a solo round this morning. Teed off around 8AM and was stuck behind a fivesome of minorities that were playing from the tips and were lucky to hit it past the senior tees (if it went straight), a pair of old white guys who must've shanked every other shot after staring at their ball for what seems like an eternity before hitting it, and a couple of threesomes who were playing fast but were stuck behind those asswipes. I made it to #14 after 3 1/2 hours and called it quits.

I know you get what you pay for, but my God, they have to do something about the retards who can't play for shite taking their sweet arse time making their way through the round. There ought to be some enforcement, even if it's a minimum wage college kid just driving around on a golf cart all day. Even at the cheapest courses, 4 1/2 hours rounds should not be the norm, especially so early on a weekday.

That's not that bad. Sounds like you had 5-6 groups around you so I would say that's pretty standard.

Sounds like it wasnt a normal week say crowd. There were multiple groups on the course.

Played there Saturday morning and there was no starter. Passed a group of 6 and a group of 5. Slow play, slow greens, and a lot of mud balls.

I never had an issue there until about a month ago. There were a few groups out there in the mornings but they were always offering to play through, and they were playing at a solid pace themselves.

Now, it's like every retard with a club has been coming out. The fivesome backed up the first tee for about 20 minutes as they all searched for their shanked drives then proceeded to shank their second shots and search for those. Then the two idiots behind them did the same thing, and it snowballed from there.

I don't care if you suck, but play with some speed if you're not good, especially in large groups that have zero intention of letting the multiple quicker groups behind them play through. It's a complete lack of etiquette or ready golf and it's allowed to flourish when the marshalls are only worried about practicing their putting on the 14th green.

I don't expect a two hour round, but I've got things to do, and spending my entire morning watching jackasses dribble balls down the fairway is not how I like to spend my time on the course.

Depends on the day, weather, group of 3-6 in front, etc...

This is the messed up part. If they aren't letting you play through then that's messed up. If the course was busy and it took you a bit over 4 hours to play a round then you can't really gripe. With that said I play fast and hate slow play, but on a busy day I know it's going to take a while so I just have to get over it.

So if it's just you out there, I have a suggestion. Normally on weekdays if I go out and I can see a few groups on holes 1-3, I'll go straight ahead and start on 10 or 15 depending on how the back 9 looks.

This. When you pulled up the the first tee box and saw a 5-some I would have turned around and teed off on 10.

I play the average priced courses here in Houston ($40-$60) and I'm shocked on a Sat or Sun when it's less than a 4+ hour round. Just the way it is. Those courses can't afford having a Marshall ride around all morning and piss people off. Most are struggling to just stay open and have the fairways and greens mowed.

At least on weekends they have a starter which keeps it somewhat organized. During the week, it becomes a free for all which can suck at times. Sounds like what you encountered.

I do get what youre saying, but also i believe it was cart path only this morning as well so 3 and a half isnt too bad (for 14). But i agree, they do need a marshall out there

About the time the TD Golf Board was introduced? A lot of Rantards out here now that they know LSU has its own course.

This gives you the flexibility of getting in the back 9 in about an hr/ maybe hr and a half, then by the time you get to the front even if you have to wait it's not like you're waiting the rest of the day

This... a thousand times this. I hear people complain about starting behind 4 groups this early in the morning and I always ask... how did hole #10 look? There is nothing that says you have to play them 1-18. Start on the back or hell even start on 3 and then only wait on 1-2 when you come back around.

so you're one of the assholes that thinks it's acceptable to play in 4 1/2 hours

Yeah well lots of times the course might not want you starting on the back in the morning because they are still doing maintenence, cutting cups, etc.

to be fair this depends on the situation. If the tee sheet is full then they're not going to want you forcing your way on bc you decided to get a jump on the back nine and now you bump everyone behind you on the tee sheet and slow play even more for everyone else.

I prefer not to play them, but I realise when the course is busy it is going to take between 4 and 4 and half hours. Like I said I play really fast, but when there's groups on the next five holes that's how long it takes. Now if one group that is holding everything up that's one thing, but OP explained how there was multiple groups ahead of him and it took 4 hours to play. I get that of you go out early on a weekday by yourself you want to play quickly, but at least 5 groups had teed off right ahead of him so that wasn't really an option.

Singles do not have standing on a golf course. If you roll the dice by playing solo you may encounter slow play. But 3.5 hours through #14 holes sounds like you were gonna play in 4.5 hours which isn't awful

Why didn't you just pair up with one of the 3-somes? It would be at least steadied out the pace so you're not just sitting there so long between shots
