I will be going to Ireland with 7 other guys on 8/13 for a 7 day golf trip. I am looking for some general advice (other than bring rain gear and lots of balls)/recommendations/can't miss things for anyone that has played over there. We will fly into and out of Shannon and will be staying in Killarney for 4 nights and then at the Trump Doonbeg for 2 nights and have a driver the whole time.
Courses:
-Mahoney's Point (local course in Killarney we added for the day we arrive)
-Waterville
-Old Head
-Tralee
-Ballybunion (Old Course)
-Doonbeg

Read Tom Coyne's book "a course called Ireland"
Great read. He literally walked all of Ireland. Not just the courses... the whole country.

If you're here to brag and make people jealous....
It worked.

I guess it is a bit of a brag. I'm mainly just curious what advice people that have played over there can give that you won't find on the internet.
For example, someone told me to pack a bungee cord or two to strap my bag to the pull cart so it doesn't fall off while traversing the sand dunes. I would never have thought of that since I mainly ride or carry when I play here.

plenty of socks ... always carry an extra pair in your bag in case you want/need to change after 9 ... might want two pairs of shoes so you can change after a few rounds so your feet are rubbed differently ... quality, quality, quality rain gear ... you're spending thousands of dollars, so don't skimp on the rain gear, whatever brand you buy ... goretex only ... and i'd honestly check to see if there's a massage parlor in town and if they have foot massages ... don't know how much you walk, but walking 18 every day will wreak havoc on your feet ... you can get by with a tired body, but your feet are going to feel it more than anything else ...

No Laying Up podcast has a good episode on Ireland golf, I think it's got one or two of the courses you're playing. Worth a listen.

First off...
I've had what you're doing as a bucket list item for quite a while now so I don't have much advice. But working international, Ive made quite a few friends from there and Scotland. They all say the same thing...bring yer rain kit mate. And if a fore caddie is offered, use it.

Checked out the podcast last night. Three of the courses we are playing are featured. Thanks for the heads up.

I played Old Head,Lahinch,Ballybunnion B2B2B last fall. Obviously rain gear is essential, even on a nice day it is bound to rain at some point. No beverage carts and most courses have one food station on the turn and it will empty of alcohol very quick. Stock up early.
Had some great times at the grill/club bars afterwards.

I've been wanting to go play over there. I'm not exactly ready to do that right now but its a goal of mine for the nearish future. If you dont mind sharing, whats the pricing looking like?

We are using Sterling Golf Tours and the package is $3000 and includes lodging (free Irish breakfast everyday), golf (green fees only), and car w/driver everyday.
My plane ticket from DFW was around $1200.
Other expenses will be food, caddies, pull carts, lots of booze, and probably some other random stuff. I also had to buy some stuff to prepare for the trip, most notably rain gear.
All in all it will probably come in just north of $5000.
Hope that helps.

The day you arrive you'll have serious jet lag. You should rest. I spent time in Killarney.....you'll have the trip of a lifetime. Enjoy!
