I think I'm going to switch to the claw

I've struggled on the greens for the past few years with a conventional grip.

Last year I went to an oversized grip but still am having the same issue.

Anyone switch to the claw? Are there any drawbacks?

I will sometimes go left hand low for putts inside of five feet if I'm struggling. It helps me, but my feel for speed is not nearly as good when I go left hand low.

Now that we have established your gayness, is this an offer or threat?

I tried the claw grip once in college when I was drunk.

But, that's just between you, me, and the internet.

I never realized the claw had this stigma. I'd rather keep missing the 3 footers!

Thanks for the help, guys.

I don't know about that. I've heard use the same grip with every club. That's all I've ever know.

Claw just seems gimmicky. If you're wristy, and that's messing you up, I can see how it would help.

Ever try left hand low?

I switched to cross hand two years ago, and have never looked back.

I'm just messing with you. Try it, but I'm not a fan. I actually have the claw super soft grip on my putter, so I can put my index finger down the shaft and still be on a grip.

If you are right handed and right eye dominant, try standing over the ball more and opening up your stance on the shorter putts. You may just be lined up a little off and your left eye is cheating you.

I'm left eye dominant so I close down even more and see that line with my left eye. It helped.

That and getting over the ball mkre to see the true line.

Yeah I've tried left hand low.

My problem is a mild case of the yips and my right hand shutting the clubface down.

I have fought this for years. In my experience the greens we play here are too slow for the claw to really be successful.

I would suggest this: place your right hand on the grip so the palm is directly under the grip (the back of the right hand facing your zipper). You can grip it with the left hand the regular way - or any way that you are comfortable. Feel like your stroking the Pitt with the right forearm.

You may never miss another putt

Claw has worked wonders for me. Went to it on a lark at a league round at TPC about 3 years ago. Had zero three putts that day, and I never went back. It's almost an automatic fix for short misses. Takes a little getting used to hitting long or slow putts with enough pace.

Switched to left hand low a couple of years ago and never looked back. Helps a ton for shorter putts. For longer putts I use conventional because I just can't seem to get the speed correct from downtown.

I tried everything, and this is what worked for me. Experiment a little bit. May look goofy, but it is worth to shave a few strokes off a round IMO

I've tried the claw, left hand low, and jumbo grips but always go back to a smaller grip with a traditional hand placement, interlocking. My uncle putts lights out with the claw though. My dad does left hand low.
