most forgiving blades ever

If you are playing blades you are not interested in forgivness

And truly with todays self correcting hard to curve golf balls, " working" the ball is fast becoming a lost art

Iron play in todays game is about distance control and apex height not hitting high draws or low cuts

I'm just sayin,,,

Which club do you think the following OEM press release applies to:

quote:

* NEW Grain Flow Forged®, 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel provides the ultimate soft, solid, consistent feel.
* Durable Double nickel chrome plated finish.
* Modified U-grooves produce the ideal spin rate for maximum playability in all conditions.
* Rolled leading edge, cambered mid-sole, and rolled trailing edge deliver consistent striking ability from all types of lies.

I have the Mp29s
IMO baddest mizuno iron set ever made.
Tiger had nike replicate them for him in the late 90s.
I love them.

I think Tiger used the MP14s, but he did in fact make Titleist and Nike duplicate the clubs he played with as an amateur.

Thanks for the help fellas. I bought some older Mizunos off Craigslist this week. They are in really good shape, but are missing a 4i. It's a good set to see if I can actually hit them. I spent my kid's nap time on Saturday taking out the blue Mizuno logo and putting in the green and gold. I'll get out there next week and hopefully get to swing em.

3-p, no 4i. It's a funky set, but it'll give me a chance to see if I can hit them. I can always choke down on the 3i if I need a 4i distance

I think you will love them if you're like me. People say "if your X handicap or higher you should hit game improvement irons." I listened to them and bought GI irons. I liked them, and yes they were more forgiving and really launched the ball, but the way they look and feel is incomparable to a blade. Yeah, sometimes I miss the sweet spot and I hit a grounder 50 yards, but those shots every now and then are worth it for all those shots where you hit it flush and it looks and feels like golf is supposed to feel like.

Swinging the Mizunos ruined GI clubs for me. I can never go back.

There are a lot of categories between GI and blades

It's not so black and white

You're right. I'm sure clubs like the Ping I-200's are a blast to hit.

Using Mizuno:

Blade (MP-18, MP-5)
Split Cavity (MP-18 SC, JPX Tour, MP-25)
Cavity back w/ extra weight in toe (MP-18 MCC, JPX Forged)
Game Improvement (JPX HM)
Super Game Improvement (not really something Mizuno carries... So, Ping GMAX)

Yeah, I thought of those, but they don't even have them for sale on their site anymore.

I've been using Cleveland TA3 form forged (2 - PW) for more than fifteen years. I've dicked around with blades and other forged sets with small cavities (various iterations of AP2s, CBs, MP 18s, you name it), and nothing to me is still as sweet as those TA3s. I've had them re-gripped Lord knows how many times and re-grooved a few times. Pair them with a 588 51 degree, a 485 56 degree (best club Cleveland ever made - dead serious about that), and a 588 60 degree. Cleveland had a great thing going back then. The TA 3s from fifteen years ago are still smooth as butter.

I switch out the 2 and 3 for a 21 degree hybrid these days so I can play four wedges, and I am pretty loyal to Titleist when it comes to maintaining a top-of-the-line tech advantage with an orientation towards a player's look and game (carry an 8.5 917 D2 played at that loft, a 15 917 F2 adjusted to about 16, and a 21 917 H2 played at that loft), but I bet most of the better players here would love the old TA 3s.

Ping i20's are essentially the same thing and can be had for cheap.

Just an update. Hit them a lot better than I thought I would. Biggest difference is the 2* difference in loft. I've been misclubbing and flying greens for a month. I realized I had my old set for 8 years and had the distances dialed in. The new clubs are taking some getting used to on that front.

But other than that, they are a really good set for the price I paid. You really can't put a price on a well struck blade.

Not going to make a blanket recommendation that everyone should play blades, but they aren't as bad as I thought they were and I'm sure more people could play them if they wanted to.
