Will the COD franchise release a truly great multiplayer experience ever again?
Posted by Ross on 12/29/13 at 5:26 pm00
A lot of my friends decided not to buy Ghosts after the bad experiences from Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 2, but from the few that did, the feedback hasn't been all that great. Apparently the gun balance is solid but the maps are so big that it makes the game boring. I haven't personally played the online yet, but I will soon. However, it's telling that so many people that dropped the sixty bucks on the game are already casting it aside in favor of other online experiences and we haven't even gotten to January yet. I've never seen a COD game get cast aside so early in its life cycle honestly.
Call of Duty used to have a pretty solid stranglehold over the online FPS community, but it feels as though the franchise is losing that grip pretty rapidly and has been ever since Black Ops' lifespan ended. I know once the honeymoon phase of MW3 ended this board really collectively kind of jumped off the bandwagon. It just seems that with these last few titles the franchise has lost the "fun factor" it once had that kept people addicted. And I'll say I personally don't think this is only because the games have dropped that far in quality, but I think people are a little burned out of the COD formula, which has remained pretty much the same for several years now.
I'm making this thread to gauge the opinion of the Gaming Board, do you guys think the franchise will stay on top of its mountain for the forseeable future, or will some of these new titles coming out on the new platforms usurp it in the future? I'm interested to know what you guys think.

CoD 4 was still the best in my opinion. I played the absolute shite out of that game. I stopped playing after the first BlOps though so I wouldn't know how much worse it's gotten

CoD4 was the most solid, MW2 the most fun. Black Ops was the freshest but it played like crap on PS3 so most PS3ers gave up on it. MW3 was the beginning of the end. JMO.

I doubt it. All downhill since the COD4, Black Ops I is the last on I can stomach. I still roll COD4 pretty regular and may bust up the MW2 tonight to see how it plays on the Box

You take out the Commando knifing and one man army toobing in MW2 and it would be GOAT.
I had the most fun on BLOPS 1. It was too easy.

Just hit about ten matches on MW2 and it was pretty good. I sucked at times but the gameplay was straightup. A keeper on the Box, it was fun
Gonna hit Black Ops next chance

Call of duty has been shite since the Majority of IW left to make Respawn Entertainment. The OG IW is what made call of duty worth a shite.
Look for Titanfall (made by OG IW) to be the next big thing in multiplayer. I just wish they would have went the modern fps route.

I think this is the main issue.
I hadn't played in a while about 8 months. Then picked up ghost an I loved it. Then the "new" wore off very quickly and hadn't really touched it.
I think CoD is pretty much done for. I know I won't buy another and I have bought all since CoD4.
I'm excited for Titanfall and Destiny and whatever new things are to come in the new gen.

U have to keep playing Ghosts to start to enjoy it. I hated the maps at first but once u learn them they're fun outside of Siege. And they're patching things slowly but surely.
Id personally like to see cod go back to the ww2 era. To me the problem with the new cods and ghosts is there are too many gadgets and killstreaks. They have environments that are hard to pick out opposing players and enemies use these attachments that point out players and outline them and crap like that. The multiplayer just needs to be simplified down. They need to concentrate on the maps and mechanics instead of jamming it with additional features.

COD 4 will always and forever be the best.
Luckily, it's the only one I've played. From what I'm hearing, I probably shouldn't give any of the others a try.
